SHOWCASE: Iron Hands by Energongoodie
Black Space Marines are often considered the ideal “beginner’s paint scheme” for new hobbyists. These Iron Hands make a mockery of that stereotype.
First off, lets take a look at a tiny sampling of the miniatures.

Now lets talk about this great paint scheme. First off we are not just talking about the scheme but the entire model, from the posing to the basing, to the painting. With just a handful of minimalist techniques including:
-subtle blue glows around the eyes (and plasma vents)
-subtle glowing on the lower surfaces coming off of the red lightsourcing on the bases
-slightly glossy finish on the black
-minimal lining
-crisp clean white stripes
Energongoodie has given us a really clean black finish that seems both crisp and detailed, with an oily finish. The underlit lightsourcing on the bases give the miniatures a somewhat sinister feel, and the crisp stripework and the blue glow edging give the overall paintscheme the “I know I’m doing” feel. There isn’t a bit of slapdash beginner’s feel to the black, and that a painter can do this without having to rely on overdone highlight edging is very impressive.
Modeling wise, the integration of both chapter logos, and some Necron bits gives the army that “mayby too-aligned with the machine” sense of icy fear. Finally the positioning of the models has a naturalism and sense of purpose to it. Every model has that “cold-clinical killer” vibe just radiating from it – perfect for the Iron Hands.
