The Republic has some new Clone Commando Reinforcements inbound. We’re diving into the new unit expansion box to see what’s inside!

Atomic Mass Games has sent us a copy of the upcoming Republic Clone Commandos Unit Expansion. We already got a preview of their rules and now we’re getting a closer look at what’s actually in the box. These elite Clone Commandos will be reporting for duty soon enough. So let’s see what they are bringing to the tabletop!

Republic Clone Commandos Unit Expansion

Right from the box you can tell this is a slightly smaller unit expansion. It’s only four models but these clones pack a punch.

Packing-wise it’s another one of these Atomic Mass Games/Asmodee packing jobs. Everything that’s important is in plastic bags. I’m guessing this is just because it’s easier to track or keep things from getting damaged in transport. Either way, you get the four models on two sprues, four bases, and all the cards and tokens you need for the unit.

The sprues themselves are fairly clean. If you’re familiar with other plastics that AMG uses like Star Wars: Shatterpoint, this stuff is a little lighter in color. It has a similar feel to the other stuff though and the details are pretty clean. It’s certainly not bad material by any means. This is a far cry better than the soft stuff that Legion originally shipped with. While I appreciated the easy of building the first gen Legion stuff, I personally prefer this harder plastic material. It takes more hobby time but the results are worth it.

In terms of cards, you get the unit cards and upgrade options. Again, we saw these upgrades before. The DC-17m ICWS can either be the Sniper Config or the Anti-Armor Config. It’s a double-sided card as are the tokens, too. All in, it’s what you need to run this unit as either the generic Clone Commandos or as the more Elite Delta Squad.

Personally, I really like the look of this squad as a whole. They have that proto-Storm Trooper look but more high-tech. That makes a lot of sense considering they are Galactic Republic Clones, right? So if you want to recruit some clones of your own you won’t have to wait long. The Republic Clone Commandos are coming to Star Wars: Legion on May 17th. They are up for pre-order right now.

Star Wars: Legion – Republic Clone Commandos $34.99

“The Galactic Republic’s elite Clone Commandos enter Star Wars™: Legion in this pack! As the preeminent soldiers of the Grand Army of the Republic, Clone Commandos are deployed to the most dangerous missions and this pack adds a unit of four Clone Commandos to players’ collections. Two unit cards allow these miniatures to be deployed as either a standard Support Unit or as the renowned Delta Squad. Additionally, two upgrade cards make the Clone Commandos even more hearty with their signature Katarn Pattern Armor and give them even more tactical flexibility with two configurations for their DC-17m ICWS Blaster Carbines. “
