Fight waves of enemies and defend Tertium in the new Warhammer 40,000: Darktide The Miniatures Game. Can you survive the tide?

I think we’ve just come full circle. Darktide is coming to the tabletop with a new miniatures game. So this miniature game is based on the video game which is based on the tabletop game. Yep. It’s the circle of life…or something. Anyhow, it’s a new way to play around in the Grimdark and that’s what really counts.

“A deadly pathogen has swept through the hive city of Tertium and the city’s defenders have either been slaughtered or corrupted into the service of Chaos. Missions into the hive are near-suicidal affairs, so to ensure that nothing of value is lost on a botched incursion the Inquisition have press-ganged teams of hopeless rejects from Imperial prisons to throw at ludicrously dangerous tasks.”

Darktide: The Miniatures Game

This is far from the first time Games Workshop has ported over their miniatures into a “board” game. It appears we’re getting the four base heroes from the Darktide video game alongside a bevy of Poxwalkers and Traitor Guardsmen.

Traitor Guardsmen and Poxwalkers — you don’t need to know which is which. Just take them out.

There are a total 20 miniatures in the box. Unfortunately we don’t have a full listing of what’s included. We can see various dice, tokens, stat cards, playing tiles, a rulebook, and an “activation” deck. I’m assuming there’s either going to be missions included or someway to randomize the game to keep the replay value coming.

GW is positioning this miniatures game as a good introduction to “aspiring hobbyists” and a “first taste of the intense skirmish combat of a game of Kill Team.” I am a little curious how much of the Kill Team rules got ported over to this new miniatures game now. The stat cards don’t look exactly like Kill Team unit cards…but they aren’t dissimilar either.

Either way, a Darktide board game where you can play as the classes from the video game, do missions, and kill waves of heretics sounds like a fun time. Gather your rejects and get ready for an impossible task…depending on the difficulty level, of course!

Miniatures game, based on the video game, based on the tabletop game. Yep. Let’s go.
