Saddle up in some power armor, Wrath & Glory, the 40K RPG, has a new book all about playing different types of Space Marines.

The Adeptus Astartes are Games Workshop’s most recognizable figures. They’re also some of the hardest to portray in a roleplaying game while still living up to the hype and not just overshadowing everyone else at the table. It’s something every 40K ttrpg that lets you play Space Marines has struggled with. But Wrath & Glory has an interesting way of tackling it, just by putting them at the higher end of the power scale.

It looks like the game will explore this dichotomy even more in Vow of Absolution. This new book focuses on the Absolvers Chapter of the Adeptus Astartes. They’re a Chapter stationed within the Gilead System, and things are dire for them, which means more new recruits and action than ever.

And for you, the player, that means new Tier 5 Astartes Archetypes of all sorts. Let’s check it out!

Wrath & Glory: Vow of Absolution – All Astartes All The Time

Cubicle 7 shares more details…

Vow of Absolution is a detailed and in-depth guide to The Absolvers Chapter of the Adeptus Astartes stationed within the Gilead System and features a wealth of expanded lore, locations and characters…

Bound by long sworn oaths to defend the Gilead System, the Space Marines of the Absolvers now find themselves the Imperium’s last bulwark against the encroaching darkness…

With their flagship vessel, and a number of their brethren trapped in the Gilead System by the opening of the Great Rift, the Absolvers find their numbers dwindling as they desperately defend humanity in a system cut off from the Imperium’s might. On Gilead Primus, the ancient Absolver citadel of Castle Grigori is alive with more activity than its storied halls have seen in centuries as the Chapter desperately recruits and prepares new Aspirants. Elsewhere, the ancient and venerable Battle Barge, Vow of Absolution, is stationed within the Reach, holding back the incessant raids by foul Orks, the arrogant Aeldari and worse still, their own Traitorous fallen brethren.

At the heart of the book are a bunch of new Tier 5 Astartes Archetypes. These are at the upper end of starting character power in the game. Tier 5 is where you’ll find Space Marines unleashed. And the new books gives you even more ways to play with them. There are plenty of new talents to play with, as well as new rules for psychic powers so you can play as a Librarian or a Chaplain, and of course, plenty of gear.

But that’s not the most exciting thing about the new book. I’m most excited to read their advice on “running and scaling in military action-based campaigns.” Figuring out a good military campaign vibe is something of a gaming white whale. This is strange, considering that RPGs started off as wargames.
