A new story of revenge and assassins unfolds in the first Ballerina trailer – the first big-screen John Wick spin-off.

Ballerina expands from pivotal scenes in John Wick 3: Parabellum, which reveal the inner workings of the Ruska Roma, the organization that adopted and trained Wick. As they talk, they walk by ballerinas of various ages, practicing and warming up. Some are covered in the same style of tattoos as John’s.

It quickly becomes apparent that these dancers aren’t just dancers. The Ruska Roma are using a ballet company as cover for their operations and as a school for assassins.

Ballerina’s Action-Packed First Trailer

This movie allows us to explore a different part of the universe. Ballerina’s story occurs during Parabellum and has some John cameos. It’s a revenge tale focusing on Eve, an assassin hunting down the people who murdered her family. She was only a child when she lost them, which led to her meeting Winston and entering the Ruska Roma’s training program.

The first trailer is filled with the action we’ve come to expect from the franchise. Ana de Armas (who has shown her chops in No Time to Die and Ghosted) proves she’s ready for a fight… lots of fights.

I was sold on when Ballerina‘s cast was first announced. As with all of the Wick movies, it has a great team that can write a compelling revenge story and choreograph fantastic fight scenes. Plus, its director can handle bringing a badass female lead to the screen without making her feel like a gimmick.

Cast and Details

Len Wiseman (the guy behind the Underworld franchise) is directing from a script by Shay Hatten (who was on the team behind John Wick: Chapter 4).

Its cast is led by Ana de Armas and stars a bunch of Wickverse regulars. It brings back Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, Anjelica Huston, and Lance Reddick in one of his last on-screen appearances. Newcomers include Norman Reedus, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Gabriel Byrne, Abraham Popoola, and Togo Igawa. La Femme Nakita herself, Anne Parillaud, is also making an appearance.

Taking place during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Ballerina follows Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas) who is beginning her training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma.
