Warmachine/Hordes: March 2014 Unboxings

5 Minute Read
Mar 3 2014

Another month, another round of new releases from Privateer Press!

Trenchers are the latest unit Privateer Press is taking to plastic. Not only is this new box $5 cheaper than the old metal one, it also comes with three $6.00 weapon attachments. You’ll save $23 with this box.

Here are all the bits. There aren’t too many so assembly should be pretty easy.

Here’s a close-up of one of the torsos.

I think this one is the leader.

Here’s one of the grenade porters.

And a shot from the back. Stylin’ trench coats you guys.

Finally here are some lose bits.

My first impression of this kit is quite good. Recently we’ve seen some inconsistency in the quality of Privateer’s plastic kits. While I was pretty impressed with the plastic Bane Thralls (something I stand by having just recently finished painting them) the Retribution Halberdiers and Riflemen were covered in flash. On first glance, these Trenchers definitely seem to be of equal, perhaps even superior quality to the Banes. This is not to say they are mold-line free however, but I do think clean up will be on the easy side. Don’t hold me to it though – a lot of the time mold lines can be easy to miss until after you prime a model.

As far as I’m concerned these guys are the main act. Finally we have the Gatorman Bokor and Swamp Shamblers.

There are 21 models in this box. Rather than release lots of Shambler Blisters, Privateer seems to have wanted to make sure you get all the ones you could ever need in one box. Since the unit begins with only ten Shamblers, you’ll have to make a lot of extras before you run out. I’m a little surprised they didn’t go plastic with these guys. A lot of people will probably want this unit since it can be fielded in five different armies. The plastic releases for mercs and Minions have been minimal overall and that just seems odd to me given how many armies can use them.

Here’s one of the little guys. It was difficult to really make them out in the picture Privateer had posted for the unit. But they look good and have a lot of detail.

Another Shambler.

The final Shambler.

And here is the Bokor.

This is an expensive unit given all the pewter involved. All these little zombie trogs will set you back $75. But that’s only about $3.50 a model which is practically dirt cheap for tin minis these days. That price definitely won’t stop me from picking up another box for Rask’s Tier. I already have the Ambushers.

Now we move on to blisters. Here is the Skarlock Commander for Cryx.

All the bits.

Finally we have a solo for the Trollbloods: the Trollkin sorcerer.

Like so many Trollblood releases lately, he is a big boy.

Here’s a close-up of the face, dry-fit to the body.

But wait – we have a special bonus unboxing this month: Rolling Bones Goreshade the Bastard and Deathwalker.

Here are all the bits.

The detail on this guy seems just a little soft in places – something I’ve encountered with metal casts of CAD Sculpts before. For example, you can barely make out the slits on those two large screws on his chest. Hopefully he’ll still look good after some paint is applied.

And here are those rolling bones of his.

Some other bits.

Legs and cloak.

And Deathwalker herself.

While I haven’t gotten around to assembling this guy yet, just putting his legs side by side with the old sculpt should give you an idea of how massive the new one is.

~ Hope you enjoyed this latest batch of sculpts. Next month’s batch looks very interesting. We’ll have the Bane Riders and the newest batch of Convergence Heavy Vectors.
