Austin City-wide Tourney
Last weekend I played in yearly Austin City-wide tournament. It is a 2000pt tournament that pits a team of players from each of Austin’s gaming stores against each other for both Individual and Store bragging rights.
This year saw 3 stores send 4 players each to the tourney.
- Battleforge Games
- Dragon’s Lair
- Thor’s Hammer
I took my 2000 pt Eldar Torrent of Fire Army and played 6 games over 2 days. The army performed well being both mobile and hard hitting. Most folks were unprepared for the amount of S:6 fire it can project onto key elements of their army.
It’s Achilles heel however is short range, so my hardest (and funniest) game was against a very well constructed Necron army. He had me on range and maneuverablily (with many destroyers). The table had a wide open center and by turn 2 I had determined that venturing forth into the shooting gallery was suicide. I hung back and hid. My opponent sent forward a unit or 2 using Veil of Darkness and almost lost them all as the entire army focussed on the now isolated units. The survivors quickly withdrew and we drew down the clock…stalemate 🙂 We both had a fun laugh and wrapped our 6 turn game as all the other tables were starting into turn 2.
The games were:
Bigred vs Imperial Guard
Result: Bigred Victorious Slaughter
Bigred vs Witchhunters
Result: Bigred Victorious Slaughter
Bigred vs Tau
Result: Bigred Victorious Slaughter
Bigred vs Necrons
Result: Bigred Tie
Bigred vs Space Marines
Result: Bigred Crushing Victory
Bigred vs CSMs (Black Legion)
Result: Bigred Victorious Slaughter
The overall Tournament results were:
Best Store Team: Battleforge Games
Best General: Bigred
