“Subtle and insubstantial, the expert leaves no trace; divinely mysterious,
he is inaudible. Thus he is master of his enemy’s fate.”

BoLS has gotten a few requests for some painting articles and I volunteered to display a few models I’ve painted in the past. This is the first in a series.

One of my favorite armies currently is my Tzeentch Chaos demons that were mostly painted by Goatboy. When I decided to expand it into some of the other Chaos Gods, my first choice was to add some heavy assault. However, Tzeentch certainly can build them better than Khorne, right?

Behold the Bloodthirster of… Tzeentch!

The first thing I did with him was remove all of the Khorne symbols that cover him. I removed the axe head and built the Tzeentch-y replacement using plasti-card. Once I had the model sufficiently Tzeentch-ed out, I primed him black and covered all of the skin surfaces with straight Mordian Blue. On top of that, a layer of Enchanted Blue and a heavy dry brush of Hormagaunt Purple. From that point I wanted to darken it up and did so by washing the entire skin surface using Leviathan Purple. A dry brush of Enchanted Blue and Ice Blue polished it off. Some blended white highlights were the final touch for the skin tone.

I painted a base coat of scab red on the fur parts, as well as the back and part of the head followed by a wash of Leviathan Purple and a light coat of Warlock Purple. I painted the armor plates the same way, but added an additional Tentacle Pink highlight. A Badab Black washed Boltgun Metal surrounds them. I used the same technique on the rest of the metal parts as well. The horns are all Scorched Brown, Kommando Khaki, Dheneb Stone, and White.

The wings were painted Adeptus Battlegrey, washed with Badab Black, and veined using Adeptus Battlegrey.

The entire model took about 20 hours from start to finish.

~The next Painting Table will feature my Eldrad Ulthran, a second place winner at a local modeling/painting competition. Comments as always are welcome!
