Hi folks.  Today I want to talk a little about your approach to wargaming and gamesystems.  In particular the topic is one of gamer system loyalty and how you approach new game systems.

So at some point we all walked into a gaming store, looked around, and bought into some system.  Some of us will stay with that one original system exclusively for years, even eschewing other systems from the same manufacturer.  Others will move about, bouncing rapidly from system to system and even within systems from army to army with the “flavor of the month” syndrome.

You often see players broken down into the “single large army” player versus the “lots of armies in progress” side of things.

There is much inertia and brand loyalty attached to wargame systems compared to many other hobbies.  After all building and painting up an army is a much bigger commitment than buying a video game for example.  It takes a lot more mental effort to take up a new system and especially to put down a system we are already playing.

What I want to know from you is what side of the fence are you on, and something a bit deeper.  What does it take to inspire you to pick up a new gamesystem?  Do you only lay down your hard earned cash based on a new systems’s miniatures?  It is the rules, or perhaps the recommendation of friends?  Still others want to join their neighborhood gamers and play whatever is most popular in their local area.

So what are your stories?  What initially got you to try out each of the major systems you now play?

~So how many systems do you play, and what does it take to get you to try something new? Poll below.  Attack!
