Goatboy 40k Shenanigans: Summoning a New Daemon Horde
With the new plastic Daemon boxes coming out, building and creating a Chaos Daemon army is finally not nearly as annoying as it was before. Lets dive right in.
The new Daemon Prince finally gives us a cool and easier to convert/build option for a heavy choice, we almost have every troop unit in plastic, and a new unit we haven’t had a chance to really play/spam due to the lack of available model. Plus we finally have a good deal from GW on a unit we all want to play from time to time too.
I know everyone has their own opinions of the army as well as different build thoughts for 40k. I know I was originally taken with a Nurgle version of the army earlier in my writings so the army is not something new for me. Playing with Brent from Strictly Average during the team tournament at WarGames Con and watching his Daemon army do its business during the actual 40k event got me thinking that I want to try out a similarly built army too. You mix this in with a great option for an almost fully plastic army with some conversion work and you’ve got the Goatboy Seal of Approval for new personal army build. It also helps that I am currently not making any client Daemon armies. If I am working on a client army that is similar or the same as my own “work” army I stop mine and finish my clients. It isn’t fair to split inspiration.
So without further thoughts here is my list and afterwards I will explain some of the reasons as well as strategies I plan on trying to use when playing the army. I will also go over my conversion plans for each unit as I strive to use as much plastic as I can.

This is a heavy monster list with so many multi-wound creatures that the hope is I can overwhelm my opponent with threat analysis and hopefully get my guys in quickly and efficiently. Lets break it down by each Force Org choice to get a better idea of where I am going with the list.
HQ – Choices or as I like to call it – MC’s 4-7.
First of all the reason I went with two Tzeentch heralds and two Khorne ones was that I found a sweet Khorne conversion that I had to play with. Basically my Khorne Herald is riding a Stegadon. So I had to go with a Chariot for the Khorne guy. The neat thing about him is that most likely he will absorb a whole lot of enemy fire as the threat of his fat butt will be too much for opponent’s to let run around like all silly willy. The two Tzeentch heralds give me some anti infantry/anti light mech options this list needs. It will also give me some anti Dreadnought options as a Tzeentch herald sticking on a Walker will usually keep that jerk at bay as my other guys get to their business of taking heads and kicking butt. The Tzeentch Herald conversion is a floating eye made out of the heads of rogue Psykers taken by Tzeentch. Or so that is the thought – look for a pic on my painting blog next week as I just finished the first conversion.
Elites – Multi-ranged options
I know Blood Crushers are supposed to be fielded with Fate Weaver, but I want to use them as an “OH S$%T!!” unit to draw fire away from my real winners, the Fiends. A big fat drop of guys in the middle of the board, will normally keep an opponents attention. Especially if dropped close enough where they can get to you the next turn. Most units can’t survive 1 or 2 of them crashing in, so the hope is that some live through the rain of bullets and come out alright and kick some butt. The Fiends are the all stars, as they can usually drop out of bolter range and crash in quickly to take down light vehicles and other units with the sheer amount of rending attacks they can throw at you.
Troops – Nothing to see here
Minimum scoring units that are really pretty weak overall in the Daemon codex. The new plastics might see a rise in massed Horror builds, but really these units just do not shine nearly as well as some of the other options.
Heavy – Big Daddies 1-3
Here are my only real options for popping the mass of light mech. They are also designed to hurt troops with flamer attacks as well. Their 4+ Inv save is great, as they will always have “cover” for the most part. Mix this with a new plastic kit and we have an “I Win” button for a Goatboy army. I plan on making them have a single big eye that will make the model look kinda creepy and match the floating eye I plan for my Tzeentch Heralds.
So there is the basic thoughts for my army. I wanted something different that most likely will give me wonky games that don’t fall into the normal routine of my Space Goats. I know people are going, where are the goats in this army? Well for once I don’t play on anything Goat Head, Goat Legged, or Goat Spirited in this list. You will just have to wait for my Dark Goat Eldar 🙂 What’s your take my new list and Chaos Daemons?
