HOBBY: Painting Masterclass Report (video)
Earlier in August I had the pleasure of hosting 16-time Golden Daemon winner Mathieu Fontaine at a Painting Masterclass in Austin, Texas. I had previously taken Mathieu’s excellent four-hour class at Adepticon. When I found out that he teaches a two-day/twenty hour version, I knew I had to get it organized for our group back in Austin.
Here are a few clips from the weekend of painting:
That’s just a taste of what Masterclass Austin was like. Twenty hours of priming, base coating, blending, cloth, skin, faces, eyes, metallics, free-hand designs, color theory and even some art history is an intense hobby experience! If you’ve never had any instruction in miniature painting or taken any hobby seminars at conventions you’ve attended, you really are missing out.
If you’ve never had any fine art training, classes like this will open whole new worlds for you. I remember thinking after taking the four hour class, “What have I been doing wasting my time the past two years?”. If you have fine art training, Mathieu does an excellent job translating that knowledge into miniature painting.
More information about having Mathieu Fontaine teach a Masterclass in your town can be found on his blog: http://www.akaranseth.com/. More pictures from the event in Austin can be seen at The Painting Corps.
Have you taken hobby or painting seminars at conventions? What did you take and how did you like it?
