40K: Bigred goes to Area 51
I’ve always been one for the mysterious and the unexplained, so when BushidoRedPanda, Aventine, and CrazyRedPraetorian said they were headed out to Area 51, how could I resist…
Not that one! Jeez, folks can get shot doing that. This one – in Dallas! I admit it, I’ve been lazy regarding the tournament scene. I’m not like Darkwynn, Spacecurves, TPM, or Goatboy. I used to be pretty good and could finish up fairly high, but that was some time ago.
But something has stirred in my soul. I’ve been busy this last month throwing myself at the rulebook, tweaking the last wysiwyg parts of my army, and purposely throwing myself against the best BoLS writers I can find. Tough love and all that…
And this is where I’m at. This is my current 9th version of this list honed slowly by bitter defeats and slowly adding new models. It’s pretty flexible, can react to scary enemy units, can get to objectives, and has a lot of scoring units.

I used the list in 4 games at Area-51 who ran a fantastic on time event with the following results:
Game 1 – vs Daemonhunters – major victory
Destroyed his mobility early and controlled the midfield and ground them down.
Game 2 – vs IG – major victory
Took it on the chin turn 1-2 and pushed forward as aggressively as possible with gate, pods, etc. Got into their lines and took the army apart in the late game.
Game 3 – vs Blood Angels – defeat
Played a maneuver war with Lysander/Sternguards units trying to box in Mephiston while my gunline engaged the 6 podding dreads headed my way. A critical gate-deepstrike scatter overshot Meph. and he get into my army. We tied primary and I lost secondary/tertiary.
Game 4 – vs Marines – major defeat
Played a Khan army broadly similar to mine. Actually a very tense maneuver battle with very low casualties on both sides that swing in his favor on all objectives in the last turn. One of those games that slips through your fingers…
Results, I finished 10 out of 30.
Not bad for my first outing since Adepticon. I find myself in that middleground of knowing its going to be a tough road to improve my game and I’m gonna get knocked to the ground a lot between here and March. But I want to believe I can get in tip top tourney shape again before facing all of my friends in Chicago.
