Maxmini has just released their Scrap Tank. The kits has been a long time coming. Due to some issues casting it it was delayed but I am happy its finally been released
DISCLAIMER: I use my own chart for reviewing standards. The scale is 1 to 5 teef.
1 toof -Far below average (rare) 2 teef – below average but not terrible (below average) 3 teef – Average, fair, a good deal all around (average) 4 teef – superior to most of the products out there in either price, quality, etc (above average) 5 teef – Extremely high value or quality. (rare)
If I rate something a 3 that does not mean its bad, not good, etc. That means it is on par with other kits out there, most likely on par with current GW kits, FW kits etc.
Quality: I was lucky enough to get a prerelease kit and it looked very nice. I’ve been assured that the new mast mold is even better with respect to quality and how long it will last. I could see where the original would not last long due to some very tight spacing. But the kit is top notch, as is common with Maxminis production and sculpts.
4 Teef
Value: The kit is par with the cost of existing GW kits such as the Leman Russ and is comparable in size. Its got much more heft to it being a solid block of resin though.
3 Teef
Look/Feel: I feel the scrap tank meshes well if you plan to use it as an Ork Big Trakk, Looted Wagon, Junka, Gun Wagon or even a closed top Battle Wagon with a kill kannon. Its got loads of scrap plating, dents, dings and just general battle wear. It honestly looks very much like a scaled up Grot tank, which is how I use it. In my list its a Big Trakk with a supa kannon for my grot mech army. It could also work great in a rebel guard army as a Leman Russ in my opinion. In fact I am heading down that path myself.
4 Teef
My next post on the Scrap Tank shall be with respect to painting it. I shall attempt to give a step by step guide, or as close as I am able to anyway. This kit can be purchased from maxmini.eu.
