Hello my fellow Blighted players out there, Caldera here to talk about the Legion half of the Hordes Starter Box Set. In this new set we see the same battlebox mini’s that we are already used to if you have already picked up Legion of Everblight as your faction. If you are looking to get into it then you are in luck as this package has a lot to offer for the beginner.
So lets talk about what comes in this kit. First the battlebox portion is Prime Lylyth, a Carnivean and 4 Shredders. What is added is a full unit of Warspears as shown above. This whole package gives you a great combination of Shooting and Melee to learn with between the Warlock, Beasts and a Unit.
Before this release of this great deal, I had never got around to playing with this new unit. The reason for that is because it’s all metal and I don’t use infantry all that much with my Legion because DRAGONS! Haha. So the last couple of weeks I have been trying these guys out and seeing how they stack up with all the other toys we have to play with.
What I have found out about the Warspears was quite surprising to me. They are actually very useful for me. The first game I played with them, I had them screening my warlock the whole game and that gave an ample amount of protection from assassination. For new players this is a great asset because their medium bases and lots of health mean they will be sticking around to block line of sight to the warlock from the enemy.
They come with a rule called Set Defense which makes them harder to hit when being charged. If you throw a tenacity buff on them it puts their defense into very hard to hit range. They also have enough armor and health to take a few licks and keep on trucking.
Now offensively I found that they were not stellar but were very solid. They can pack a punch on the charge as well as being able to use the Assault rule. A few throws of the spear before charging in is always nice! Warspears can kill infantry and put pretty big dents in warjacks/warbeasts. That’s all without any outside buffs. To me that means they are quite a package when you consider all the things Legion has to make this unit better like Tenacity, To-Hit buffs, Damage buffs and a few movement sheniangans.
Overall I think Warpsears are a great addition to new players and old players alike. I have found a spot for them in a few of my lists already. As I mentioned above, my favorite use for them so far is the ability to speed bump and hide my warlock from danger. So if you were looking to get into Legion and didn’t know if this new deal is worth it or not, I would highly recommend it as it’s a great starting platform for a new player to learn with. For the players who already have your Legion army, here’s the reason I was excited about the new package…Plastic Warspears!!! It’s also another avenue to acquire all those shredders you will need for the crazy Epic Thagrosh All Shredders All The Time List!!!
