Welcome to another “This Week in 40K Podcasting,” Here is this week’s top 5!

Highlights:  This week the boys kicked off their two part series on Codex: Grey Knights!  They opened up the show with an introduction to their guest Daniel and his gaming history.  They followed this up with some announcements and letting everyone know that the Heroic 28s are taking a short break.  They also discussed some of the major changes that have come with the new wave of FAQs.  They also talk a bit about the games they have been playing lately, and this included tournaments that both Kenny and Daniel attended.  Next, the guys began their coverage of Codex Grey Knights, starting off with the Special Rules of the army like ‘Brotherhood of Pykers’ and ‘Psychic Pilot’.  Next, the guys discussed the generic Grey Knight HQ units and some of the more noteworthy wargear, like psychotroke grenades and psybolt ammunition.  They also cover the named Special Characters like Lord Kaldor Draigo and Castellan Crowe!  They then move on to cover the Inquisition side of the Grey Knight Codex, including their generic HQ choices and their named Special Characters like Inquisitor Coteaz!  They then covered the two troop choices from the GK codex, the Strike Squads and Terminators, and the dedicated Transports available for the army!

Opinion:  First, I do not know what I am going to do the new couple of months without the Heroic 28s.  Kenny is moving and the boys will not be able to record until he is settled.  So we may not hear from them until the Railhead Rumble.  Next, this was just an outstanding podcast!  Some people may have forgotten how powerful this army still is, even in 6th Edition.  This was a great start on a review for a top notch army.  Nice work guys!

Highlight: This week the boys took a look at the Dark Angels release!  They opened up the show with the ‘Roundup’ where they covered what they had been doing over their holiday break, including their hobby progress and games played.  This also included their New Year’s resolutions for 40K and their hobby this year.  Next, in the “News” segment, the boys covered the latest releases in the past few weeks, starting with Dark Angels, and moving on to the latest from Forgeworld and the Black Library!  They moved on to the ‘Rumors’ section where they covered what is out there on the web, including a Tyranid White Dwarf update.  Next, on the ‘Campaign Trail’ the boys discussed the details of their recently completed campaign, including how some of the game went, and how the campaign concluded.  They also talked a bit about the Crusade of Fire ‘Arena of Death’ scenario and how that works.  Then came the guys unique Battle Report, and this week was Chaos battled the Ultramarines in a 1500 point game.  They discussed the mission, the deployment, and the layout of the table.  Next was the dramatization of this great battle, followed up by a review of the game and its results.  The boys closed out the show with the ‘Q&A’ segment where they answered a question about ‘starting a Tyranid army without Tervigons’ from their Facebook fans.

Opinion:  I have really missed the Turn 8 guys, having missed their last show due to the holidays!  This week’s show did show a bit of age on it, as some of the details and information was a bit out of date.  However, it was really awesome to hear about their campaign, the Battle Report is always a treat, and their views on starting a Tyranid army were just outstanding.  Great show this week guys!

Highlights:  This week the guys opened up the show as usual with ‘This Week in Gaming’ where they discussed the games they have been playing.  This included Brandon’s most recent tournament results, Eric’s new CSM list, and the Necron Night Scythe FAQ.  Next, in ‘Pat’s Corner’, Pat had an interview with Goatboy and they discussed some of the Dark Angels leaked information and his Chaos Space Marine lists.  Pat then talked to Alex Fennel about his dropping out of the ETC circuit this year and his Necron/CSM list.  Next in ‘Segmentum Obscurus’, Kevin and Alan discuss the Foot Eldar list and some of its strengths and weaknesses.  In the community segment, Pat talked to Greg Sparks, the Team USA ETC captain, AArdvark085 from the 19th Legion, Tom from the Tyrant’s Due podcast, James and John from Adepticon, and much more.  Next, the boys took a look at the new Dark Angels Codex, first starting off with some of the model releases and bizarre rules arguments that have already started with this new book.  They move on to their first impressions of the Codex, some of the key units found in this book, and what they believe will be the common builds and list for the Dark Angels.  They begin to discuss some interesting things in the book, like the cheaper Marines that can take 5 man squads with special weapons and the bit more expensive Razorback.  The close out the show by answering some questions from their Facebook fans.

Opinion:  This show also suffered a bit from being about a week out of date, and Neil acknowledges this at the very beginning.  This is very evident in the FAQ section at the end of the show, as they really get some rules incorrect as per the new FAQs.  However, despite that the show was still pretty good.  Goatboy is one of my favorite people on the web (call me bias) and hearing from Alex Fennel was a real treat.  And of course I was really looking forward to what the guys had to say about the new Dark Angels.  I am sure that there is more to come on that subject.

Prefered Enemies – Episode 44 ***Explicit***

Highlights: This week the boys dove head first into the new Codex: Dark Angels!  They open up the show with an explanation on where they have been for the last month and a review of some of the Digital GW products.  They move on to their review of Codex Dark Angels, opening up with the FAQ that released two days after the release.  They then took a look at some of the Special Rules of the army before moving on to the HQ choices and all of the things it can unlock within the Codex.  They then moved on to talk about the units of the Codex, starting with the Troop choices and moved on to the Fast Attack, Elites, and Heavy support choices.  They spend quite a bit of time reviewing the new shiny units from the codex like the Black Knights and the new Flyers!  They also did a great job looking at all of the named Characters from this book.  They then gave their overall evaluations of the codex itself, including its overall power level, balance level, and new model range.  They closed out the show with their ‘Hobby Progress’ where the discussed what they have been doing lately in the last month on the hobby work.

Opinion:  Glad to have these guys back after a small break for the holidays.  This week’s show was a really good overview of Codex Dark Angels and I highly recommend it.  I have really become a big fan of their codex reviews and this one hit on all of the big things found in the book.  If you are looking a good review of the DA, here is a good place to go.  Nice job guys!

The Overlords – Episode 118 ***Explicit***

Highlights:  This week the boys opened up their show with the ‘News’, where they covered the Dark Angels release.  This rolled into what they have been doing lately, in gaming and the hobby.  Next, the guys go through their first impressions of the new Dark Angels codex.  They cover the look and feel of the book itself, the digital copy of the Codex, and a little about the army itself.  They looked at some of the Special Rules for the DA, some of the units and the differences from your stock Codex Marine, and of course the DA specific units like Deathwing, Ravenwing, and the new flyers!  Steve also talked about his game against Dark Angels, and how ridiculous his IG list really is. They closed out the show by answering some questions and comments on the new DA from their Facebook fans!

Opinion:  This was a Dark Angels focused show this week for the Overlords.  I really enjoyed the boy’s point of view for this book, including Steve’s look at the digital version of the book.  This was a good quick look at the book with the Overlords flavor.  Good show guys!
