Rask!! Aaa-aaa . . . savior of the Universe!

Guest article by Spiderbite

First Impressions:

I have a place in my heart for a race of “fish-mens” from a certain online game sensation. When we got a “fish-man” warlock, I had to have him. The model alone is gorgeous. He’s a small base which adds to his already decent toolbox of survival mechanics, which he needs as his combined DEF/ARM of 30 won’t be doing much in that department.

His stats are nothing too amazing. MAT is decent, but if you’re using that, you’re probably dead or about to win. His RAT is in the fairly good range, again, if you’re close enough to be using that, your target better be deaded or you will be. The shots on his Harpoon are fun, in over two dozen games; I have only ever used it to strip upkeeps/animi. At least both his weapons are magical.

Surprise! He’s amphibious . . . for all that water you play with on the table. Call to Sacrifice is ridiculous amounts of fun, hopefully more so when the BogTrog Shamblers are released. Gatorman warlock, yeah, okay. Let’s move onto the good stuffs!

No Touchy! (Dark Waters):
This is the best feat in Minions thus far. (We can fight about this later.) You want army delivery done right? He’s got it. This is the feat the Coven wish they had. All my friendly Faction models have to be within 12”, which is a very large no-targeting area. Learn to judge your distances right, because shooty armies will still advance and pop you in the face if you’re trying to be Gatorman charge range away and think you’re safe. This also won’t prevent anyone from running someone up and charging their own models. Overall, a simple and fantastic feat.

Voodoo Magicks:
Admonition You’ll be casting this on yourself and keeping it up the entire game. If you don’t think you’ll need it that is when you get punched in the face by a Mammoth. With 6 Fury, upkeeping this shouldn’t be a problem.

Boundless Charge What makes flying Gators even better? Free charges and more distance. Seriously though, who doesn’t like this spell. It adds threat range, pathfinder, and aids fury management! Also note, it’s friendly model. Not friendly Faction. Not warbeast or battlegroup. So, you should be able to use it on any single model in your list. Might seem wasteful, but it’s there, and could be game winning.

Fury This is the spell that makes him scary as hell. I hear +3 melee damage is pretty good. Gatormen can tear up heavies fairly well. Swamp Horror with five PS19 and three PS 15 attacks? Wrastler with five PS20 attacks and two PS 17’s? Toss in some Boundless Charge love and giggle. Any spell that makes me giggle is a must-have. Now how to get this spell into my Cryx arsenal. . . .

Inhospitable Ground Ehhhhh. You either love or hate this spell. In our local group, the consensus is if the enemy is close enough for this spell to matter, they’re too close. However, cast on his Feat turn, or used against someone who does not have access to pathfinder, then this spell is game-breaking.

Watery Graves (the Tier list)
For those of you who missed it, BoLS teased us Gator-players with this quite awhile ago. Linky here . Without any knowledge of the BogTrog Shamblers unit, I totally dislike the Tier list. It is just too fragile and does not have any staying power outside of Rask’s feat. Make your own judgement there.

Random Babbling
Have I mentioned how sexy the model is? There haven’t been photos that have done it justice; definitely what passes for my paint job doesn’t do it any. Aesthetics aside, Rask is a blast to play. He is definitely my #1 caster now, currently paired with Barnabus for my two lists. Y’all may hate on the Swamp Horrors if you want, but Boundless Charge on a Fury’d swamp squid is frikkin’ vicious. Being able to deliver two units of Gatormen (relatively) unscathed to their frontlines while bouncing Fury between them? Money in the bank. I have so much hope built up for the Shambler unit to bring him even further up the damn good warlock department. We’ll see how that goes.

Until then. . . .”waarrrbbblgggrrrlllrgggg
