They move on to talk about the Army wide Special rules, which included Supporting Fire and all of the fun this will bring to the table. They also discussed the Warlord traits and their feelings on how well this was written. They then moved on to a unit-by-unit review of each of the choices available within the Codex, starting in the HQ slot. They spent some time focusing on Fire Warriors, Pathfinders, Crisis Suits, Broadsides and much more! They also dished out some love to the new Riptide model! They moved on to discuss the Special Characters and their improvements, including Farsight and his restrictions being removed and Aun’Va now is viable! They moved on to discuss all of the weapon and vehicle upgrades available to the Tau in this codex. They closed out the show with some finial thoughts on the Army and how it will play in 6th Edition.
Opinion: This week I have to hand it to the guys as they have put together the best overall review of Codex Tau I’ve heard thus far. This was a complete rundown of all the neat toys and tricks this new book has brought us, along with some quite insightful thoughts on the best uses for key units. Now, while it is early in the life cycle of the Tau Codex, I’d recommend everyone at least check out this show to get the best look at it. Very nice work guys, my top pick for the week!
Highlights: This show the guys had a packed house, and opened up the show with ‘This Week in Gaming’ where they covered the game that they have been playing, which included Alan’s latest tournament. This included a small rant by Alan about Forgeworld at competitive events and some of the broken combos he saw. Next in ‘Pat’s Corner’, Pat had interviews with Mark ‘Omega Prime’ and they discussed his store and his Eldar army, Nathan Fluger and his new IG army, and Cooper and his Tyranid army. Then, the guys sit do and discuss their initial reactions to the new Tau Codex. This included discussion about the Sky Ray, the Riptide, the counter meta stuff that this book brings, and much more. After the community Segment, the boys closed out their show with their Q&A segment where they answered questions from their Facebook fans!
Episode 159
Highlights: This show the guys opened up as usual with ‘This Week in Gaming’ where they discussed the latest games they have played. This included some fun with the Relic and the gang’s first games with Tau. Next, the gang continued on with their first impressions of the new Tau codex. They point out what they are not looking forward to facing against with the Tau, some early combos that are coming out, their ability to get 2+ saves, Kroot Snipers and much more! In the community segment, Pat talked to Larry from 40K Origins and they discussed their upcoming event, Sarah the WarhammerLady from YouTube, Mark from the Crimson Sage event, and Todd from the Nashcon event. They closed out the show with their list building segment. This week they built an unconventional Tyranid list and a Blood Raven’s list using the Space Wolves codex. They also had a bit of discussion about Adepticon this year and the team event that Neil, Tony and Mike will be playing in.
Opinion: It is kind of hard to sum up two shows in one, however if you are looking for the latest tactical thoughts on that new Tau Codex, here is where I would send you! Overall the two shows combined were just outstanding, with some great interviews with interesting people like the WarhammerLady (I have been a fan of hers for a while now) and Nathan Fluger, and jam packed with great topics like Forgeworld in tournaments, and of course the Tau. Check them out!
Highlights: They are finally back! After an 11 week break, the cast and crew of the Heroic 28s his finally returned to the podcast airwaves! This week they opened up the show with an introduction to their new co-host Terry and his gaming history. They then catch us up with what they have been up in the last three months in gaming and the hobby. Next, the guys play some catch up with what has been happening in 40K news since they have been off. They highlighted the Heldrake FAQ, Death from the Skies, the direction where they feel 40K is going in in 6THEdition, GW’s trade policy, and much more! In the next segment, the guys sit down and discuss the Railhead Rumble 2013, which was one of the things that kept them from recording. They discuss some of the trials and tribulations that occurred at the event, including some of their issues with location, the missions, ruling on rules discussions, the amount of time it takes for a game of 6th Edition to play, what they learned about running events and much more. Next, the boys discussed the meta of 6th Edition in the competitive circuits, this included discounting old Daemons, IG and Necron Allies, Flyers effect on the meta, and what lists they took and saw at the Railhead. They closed out the show with some announcements about the show.
Opinion: I am not ashamed to admit, I really missed this show! I was pleasantly surprised to hear the boys voices again this week as the show is back in action! This week’s show was quite a bit of catch up, basically covering the last two months of 40K news and updates. It is a shame the guys were not recording during this time but all things considered it is understandable. So while this was a lot of catch up on old news and Railhead review, next week’s show promises to be interesting. Great to have you back guys!
Death or Glory – Episode 13 ***Explicit***
Highlights: This week Mark, Richard, Luke, and James take a look at the new Tau Codex! They opened up the show with building a new Tau list and rating them. They first discussed their design polices and what they look for when building a competitive list. Next, James started off the list building segment by building a pretty nasty list full of crisis suits and snipers, with a take a unit out a turn theme. Rich made more of a markerlight spamy list with 3 Riptides, Braodsides, and a Sky Ray as well. Mike made a double commander with crisis suits, sky rays, and a lot of drone units. Luke took the approach of a pretty balanced list, more a sprinkle of everything great in this codex. They closed out the show by discussing the Warlord Traits and the Special Characters found in this book and all of the interesting things they can do for this army. They also looked over briefly the units that they did not use and why.
Opinion: I have say I really like this kind of show from the guys, there is not quite another show that does this. Each of these player are quiet experienced 40K players and hear their takes on this new army was quite interesting. I have to say I much more preferred Luke’s list as it resembles my own in many ways. An interesting show guys, I liked it quite a bit!
