Highlights:This week’s show is a little hard to describe, as the entire cast is still in mourning over the loss of Christina Campbell, their fellow podcast host who passed away this past week. The cast was joined by Carl from the Independent Characters, Jason from the Overlords, and her surviving boyfriend Alexander. They all talked about her and her life, from how they first met Christina, to how she worked her way into the 40K hobby and eventually into a 40K podcast. They also talked about how the hobby had helped bring her back from a horrific injury. They each shared some very personal memories of her and really dug deeper into who she was and how much she loved this hobby, 40K lore, being on the show and life in general. The show closed out with a personal message Christina recorded before one of her surgeries in the event she would not make it through, and it really tell a good part of her story and her struggles.
Opinions:Sometimes a show transcends the hobby. They are more than just tactics, or lore, or battle reports, or hobby tips, or comedy. They are about real people who suffered a real loss. This week’s show was really hard to listen to, and not due to any quality or content issues (there is very little 40K in here and nor should there have been), but simply because the pain that all the cast is clearly enduring. I was doing my best not to cry at work as I listened to it.This was a very emotional show, as well it should have been. For the most part though, it was a celebration of her life, both inside and outside this geeky hobby of ours, which brought some laughs and some tears.I honestly do not know what the public response to this show will be.For me, I will always count this one among those I consider to be a must hear of all time. This one took a lot of courage to put out there and my heart aches for their loss.It was heart wrenching to listen to the final part for me and I am not ashamed to say it brought tears to my eyes to hear her voice again. We all miss her, and you did well by her to honor her memory in this way guys. For my part, I’d recommend going back to Episode 52 in early January (which I did right after listening to this), the Emperor’s Children episode. She is amazing on that show and her love of that chapter is clearly evident!I put this at the top of my list this week because it belonged there. She belongs there, and always will in our hearts.
Highlights:This week the guys open up their show with ‘This week in gaming’ where they discussed the latest games they have been playing. This included some of Neil and Mikes’s thoughts on Tau after a few games with them, Christina Campbell’s passing, some rules questions on Infiltrating and much more.Next, in ‘Pat’s Corner’ Pat talked to David Arimond who took Grey Knights to the top 16 at Adepticon this year. They discussed his list and his performance at the big event.Next, Pat talked to Sean Nayden who took an Eldar-Dark Eldar list to the top 16 at Adepticon. They discussed his list and how he approached the meta a little different with it.Next, it was back to ‘the List’ segment where the guys build a list for a listener live on the show. This included a Tyranid spawning list, a Nob Biker list, a Necron/CSM flyer list, and a Space Wolves Terminator/IG blob list.In the community segment we heard from Rene Deleuran who does tactics and battle reports on YouTube, Chandler from Feast of Blades, Bring77 and they discussed his 32 man event at ConnectiCon, and misterjustin from Secret Weapon Miniatures!
Opinion:This week my education on the Tau continues, this time with some great import from Neil and Mike Brandt!Pat, of course, turned in some great interviews, with some of the top player at Adepticon this year, all worth hearing! And the guys got back to the list building segment, which I have really missed.Overall, this was a really good show this week.Check it out!
Highlights:This week the boys opened up the show with Rob interviewing Mike Bolton and they discussed his non-conventional Necron list and how well it is doing on the competitive circuits. They also discussed his non-competitive event and all of the fun they have been having there.Next, in ‘Operation Codex’, Dave and Franco sit down and discuss the Tyranid Troop selections. This included a close tactical look at Genestealers, Tervigons, and Termagants! This then moved into a conversation about some of the best troop choices in the game, the Tervigon being the big one in that slot.Next, Dave interviewed Gaz ‘Thor’ Jones and they had a Q&A with some of their Facebook fans on the Eldar and Dark Eldar. This included question like the best Eldar units, are Jetbikes worth it, and much, much more! They closed out the show with Gaz covering his Eldar/Dark Eldar list and how well it has been performing in the competitive circuit.
Opinion:This was a pretty interesting show this week, starting off with a great look at the Tyranid troop choices. The highlight however was easily the interview with Gaz Jones. His wealth of knowledge on Eldar and Dark Eldar was priceless, and all full of great tips and info.Great show this week guys!
Highlights:This week the guys opened up the show with some announcements before moving on to the latest news which included Eldar leaked photos, rumors of the latest Horus Hersey books from Forgeworld and more. They moved on to discuss what they have been up too lately in gaming and the hobby. This included Ciaran discussing just how nasty the Heldrake really is.Next, with Ciaran being back, they had a ‘Meat Locker’ segment. This week, Ciaran schooled the cast on some advice on how to prepare for a big tournament for the tournament noobie!Jon discussed his feelings on tournament and how he might not find that environment too much fun.Ciaran discussed how the events set their rules up, if the event is more competitive than others, what kind of list to bring with some general list building strategies, what sorts of lists you’ll see there, and much more! They closed out the segment and the show with some tips for traveling to an event and some helpful (and necessary) hygiene tips for attending a multiday event.
Opinion:So very happy to hear from Ciaran once again. He led a valuable discussion on how to prep for a tournament, and this was easily my favorite part of the show. This ran the gambit from getting your list ready to travelling to the event.I’d recommend this one to anyone who has not been to a tournament before.
Highlights:This week’s show is completely dedicated to the 40K Meta Game and how does one keep up with it at the rate GW is releasing codices. They started by discussing just how good the last few codices have been and why there are not more double force organization chart events. They move on to discuss the units that have utterly changed the meta, units such as the Heldrake and the addition of Forgeworld in competitive events. They also discussed playing in a competitive event and sportsmanship, it IS important.
Opinion:Quite an interesting show this week, and hearing discussion on the competitive meta from some of the top players in the world was easy to keep me interested!I highly recommend this one; it is worth the wait and short enough to be listened to more than once.
