Warmachine: New Releases Unboxed
Here are the new releases Warmachine players can look forward to this month.
First off we have the Tactical Arcanist Corps for Mercenaries. I’ve been waiting for these guys for my Rhulic army since before I knew they existed. Now Searforge finally have a unit that can make magic attacks. Not to mention do other cool stuff.
Here’s the unit.
And here’s a close-up of one of them so you can get a better look at the detail.
These guys come with some really cool bits. I’m already imagining an entire unit of High Shields with that head. And the backpack looks like the kind of nifty looking boiler that would go great on lots of things. I can picture it on a Road Hog conversion. As a boiler – or maybe as a forearm.
And here’s one of the little fellows side by side with the scale Vassal and also one of his fellow Rhulics.
Another new release for a faction I play! This new Seneschal has a really interesting set of rules. Not quite sure how I’m going to use it yet.
Here are all the pieces. That halberd haft didn’t fare so well…
I think I’m just as excited about the potential for conversions with these bits as I am about the Seneschal himself. Imagine that shoulderpad glued right above the head of a standard Protectorate heavy warjack? Or you could just use the shoulderpads as shoulderpads to convert a special Repenter for eFeora. Those legplates could be used as armguards on the same ‘jack. And I look at that weird hook halberd and immediately think of two of those replacing the daggers on a custom Dervish for Amon ad Raza.
Here’s a quick size comparison with the scale Vassal and a regular Bastion. Without his shoulderpads and leg armor he doesn’t look very beefy. But you can see that he’s actually just a wee bit taller than his non-seneschal counterpart.
Finally Ret gets three of its light warjacks in plastic. I already showed a couple of these guys awhile back when I did the Ret battlegroup unboxing, but hey, I’ll do it again.
These are the pieces that all Retribution lights share.
Here’s a little picture of the detail. It’s handled well in a lot of places. There’s good definition on the chest plate and on those strange parallel metal plates all the Ret ‘jacks have. Unfortunately there’s a mold-line running right down some of the detail on the shoulderpad.
And here are the bits that make each of these ‘jacks what they are. For what it’s worth, from left to right we have the Gorgon, Chimera, and Griffon. As to what that brown junk on the Griffon’s hand is… well, your guess is as good as mine. All three of these new plastics are a bit less expensive than their metal predecessors. The Chimera and Griffon are now two bucks cheaper while the Gorgon has only had its price reduced by one dollar. Of course it was a dollar cheaper to begin with since it has the fewest bits.
~ The Press Gangers were also released as a 10 man unit this month. But otherwise that’s all the new stuff for May. Which of these releases are you guys the most excited about?
