With the Apocalypse release dominating headlines, some of the codex news may have slipped by you.  Here is a recap.
First, let’s take a look at the apparent release schedule for the next year for 40K:

Codexes:

The release schedule appears as follows:

Space Marines – September
Tyranids  –  Q1-2014
Imperial Guard  –  Q1-2 2014
Orks  –  after IG, 2014

Supplements:

We know Tau Farsight Enclave is next, and coming out next week digitally.  The print version won’t be out till October.  After that…

From Best_Pone@Warseer

So, I’ve heard from a little birdy that Black Legion will be getting the next supplement. No idea if that will be August or not though, seeing as August is a WFB month.
This one seems weird since Codex: Chaos Space Marines IS the Black Legion basically.

Apocalypse

Then Apocalypse hit today and this has helped us learn a more than we wanted to know about Apocalypse V2.   The game is much more complex now.  GW has left the “Get all your models together and blow stuff up” attitude behind, and put a lot more rules in place, making Apocalypse a more structured and complex affair.

And “D” weapons are even MORE grim than before!  But that is for my next article.  In the mean time, let’s check into the amazing new terrain from GW for Apocalypse.

The new fortification
sets (Firestorm Redoubt, etc…) come with their rules in the box!
This is a BIG DEAL, as like Privateer Press and others do – it allows the immediate insertion of a new product into the game system without a new book required. It’s practically revolutionary for GW.

40k vs Apoc Rulesets

The Firestorm and the Vengeance are standard fortifications and use the standard ‘fortification icon’ to mark their rules. So it looks like they are now in the mix for the game, alongside all the other items such as the Aegis, Bastion, Skyshield.

The Aquila has a weird “orange glowy” icon to mark it’s rules, which is probably an Apocalypse only marker. No sighting of a standard set of 40K fortification rules.

We played our first game of new Apocalypse today and it was quite fun.  “D” weapons are truly powerful.  Warlords get to have a lot more fun.  New templates are nice.  Vortex isn’t that nasty any more and Flank March is mercifully limited (but can be broken).  When a super heavy blows up, it doesn’t do much damage 🙁
Farsight Enclaves
Finally check out some of the new art from the Farsight Enclaves supplement.  They can get something to give them an extra shooting phase!!!

Well, more on the new Apoc later this week!  In the mean time, check out all the latest Apocalypse news on Apocalypse40K.  After all, we took that name for a reason!

Have at it gang, -Loken
