Back fresh from a nice vacation, it is time to get back to work!  Welcome to another “This Week in 40K Podcasting,”
Here is this week’s top 5!
Deepstrike Radio – Episode 62

Highlights:  This week was the continuation of the boys review of the Tau Empire.  They opened up the show with what they have been up to lately in gaming, the hobby, Apocalypse and vacations!  They moved on to the ‘News’ where they discussed the recent Apocalypse release of the Farsight Enclave Supplement from GW, the latest from Forgeworld, the latest from the third party market, and the Space Hulk video game.  Next, in ‘The Strategium’, the guys were joined by Aaron who offered up some tournament tactics to playing the Tau competitively.  They covered the Special Rules of the Tau and how powerful Supporting Fire is.  They moved on to the Warlord Traits and how the Tau Traits seem to be the trend for GW and the Tau Wargear.  They also hit on  some of the key weapons and Support Systems found there and some nasty combos.  They next moved on to highlight some of the top HQ units, like Ethereals, Commanders, Bodyguard, named characters like Farsight and more.  They then moved on to focus on the Troops: the Fire Warriors and Kroot.  They moved on to the Elite choices like the Crisis Suits, Stealth Suits and if they are worth it anymore, and the awesome Riptide!  They then looked at the Fast Attack choices: Drones, Vespids, Pathfinders, Piranha, and the new Flyers.  They then moved on to the Heavy Support, starting off with the Hammerhead and moving on to the deadly Broadsides and Skyrays.  They finished off the review with an overall look and feel of the army in 6thEdition.  They finished off the show with the ‘Armoury’ where they each built a Tau list.  Jim did a Kill Zone list, Snorre did a 1500 point list, and Chase did an 1850 Farsight list.

Opinion:  This two part series on the Tau was just outstanding, and I have to say some of the guys best work yet!  They have always done an outstanding job on the background and fluff of an army they reviewed, but to bring in a competitive Tau player and show the other side of the army and how it plays on the table was a great combination!  I highly recommend this one, easily my top pick for the week!

The Overlords – Episode 132 ***Explicit***

Highlights:  This week the guys are joined by Teras from Geek Nation Tours and club member PowderFan for a look at the Tyranid army.  They opened up the show with the ‘News’ where they covered the upcoming release of ‘Chainsaw Warrior’ as a video game, some local news, and much more.  Next, the guys talked about what they have been up to lately in gaming and the hobby, and this was mostly Teras discussing his upcoming tours.  In the next segment, the guys sit down to discuss Tyranids in 6th Edition and how the army is holding up in the new edition.  They discussed how the rules changes from 5th to 6th have hindered and helped this army.  They then had a brief look at the top units from the Codex, some tactics to using them, and if 6th Edition helped or hurt them.  They also discussed some of the better builds for the army, which included the Psychic power overload build.  Next, Jason had an interview with Thomas Lund from Full Control and they discussed the upcoming release of the Space Hulk Video game!  Jason also had an interview with Art Ashley and they discussed paint brushes and paint brush care.  They closed out the show with a Q&A segment from their fans.

Opinion:  This was just a great show and it had it all, army discussion about one of my favorite armies, an interview with one of the developers of the Space Hulk, and some hobby discussion about paint brushes.  What more can you ask for?  A great show I would not miss!
Highlights:  This week’s show was focused on the meta of 40K and where it is today.  They kicked off the show with ‘This Week in Gaming’ where they ran down the latest games they have been playing.  Next was the ‘Simhammer’ segment and this week they discussed the ‘Ablative Effect’, or how adding wounds to a unit increases their effectiveness and durability.  They moved on to their ‘Miscellaneous’ segment where they discussed the top lists on the competitive circuit today.  This included Eldar/Tau list, pure Tau, Chaos Daemons and Necrons still hanging in there.  They also discussed a few other lists that are still floating around out there and still effective.  They closed out the show with their usual Q&A segment from their Facebook fans!
Opinion:  You all know I am a big fan of this show, and it is shows like this that consider my podcast bread and butter.  With the now seemingly constant state of change the game of 40K has been in this year with new Codiecs and Supplements mudding the waters of the meta, one needs shows like to keep you up to date with what the big boys are bringing to the table.  Honestly, it is the only way I can keep up anymore!  Nice work guys as always!
Highlights:  This week the boys are back and discussing day two of the Toy Soldiers event they recently attended.  They started off taking about their game four results, where Franco and BJ faced off against each other.  As usual, they gave quite a bit of details about their games, the tactics they used, and the end result of the game.  They moved on to the fifth and final game of the event, also making sure to cover all of the big details of the game and the outcome of the event itself.  Next, Dave had an interview with the winner of the Toy Soldier’s event, Adam Ryland, and they discussed the Chaos Daemons list he took to the event.  They also discussed their overall feel for the event and the overwhelming number of Tau and Eldar that were at the event.  They also dove into the subject of 5th Edition verses 6th Edition and which they prefer.
Opinion:  This week’s show was all about the Toy Soldiers event that the boys attended.  I like show like this, it gives you some real insight to what they were thinking during a game and how they run their lists.  The interview with the eventual winner was also grand.  Good show overall, keep it up guys!
40K Radio – Episode 65

Highlights:  This week the gang sat back and looked at 6th Edition a year in review!  They opened up the show with what they have been up too lately in gaming, the hobby, and Gamesday.  Up next was the ‘Tactia’ segment where Kyle and Chiller discussed their most recent 2K game: Eldar vs. Grey Knights.  Next, the boys moved over to the ‘News and Rumors’ segment, and they discussed the latest releases from the Black Library and Forgeworld, and the rumors floating out there on the internet.  Then, in the ‘Crosshairs’ segment the boys are looking back at the first year of 6th Edition.  They discussed their overall thoughts on the new edition, their likes, their dislikes, and the thing that made them think.  This included rules, codices, and the vast number of releases just in the first year.

Opinion:  This was a good look at the past year of 6th Edition.  When the boys spelled it out and all of the releases we have had in this young edition of the game I was amazed.  They did a great job hitting on what they believed to be the highlights of the edition.  A great show guys!
