Prime Axiom 101
Let’s get the obvious out of the way: the Axiom is good. Really good. Because the Convergence is a synergy faction, we’ll look at the Prime Axiom, and then the pieces that will help enable him.
Abilities:
In addition to the full complement of Power Attacks and Colossal Power Attacks, the Prime Axiom has a pretty sweet ability mirroring that of my beloved Stormwall: Launch Servitor. Once each turn, this allows him to put a servitor into play within 2”. This is hugely versatile with 4 available servitor types to choose from:
-Reflex Servitors are probably my favorite, being able to dig in (going to effective DEF16), and denying portions of the board to infantry who can’t eat blast damage.
-Elimination Servitors are probably my second favorite here, being able to throw out a Puncture shot is pretty nice to remove key infantry models to open up charge lanes, etc. The ability to make one of these is also pretty relevant in an Iron Mother Backlash-Spam list.
-Attunement Servitors can be cool to help other parts of your army (but will have to activate after PA, so won’t be able to help him), but an offensive DEF debuff is always sweet.
-Accretion Servitors seem pretty meh with him (some of you may disagree), but sometimes you really need a quick repair effect in your whole army of repairable multiwound models.
Weapons:
2x RNG11– Tow Cables with Puncture & Drag: This makes the Axiom a pretty good contender for one of the best Colossals in the game—the ability to drag an enemy heavy helped make the Galleon great, and this guy can do it twice, oh and he always damages, meaning you can’t fail to get the drag if you land the shot. Not having to boost that damage roll to ensure a drag means you have one more focus to buy extra melee attacks against whatever you pull up to Axiom’s base. And once your target gets there, don’t be afraid to shoot it with the extra Tow Cable if you need to. Colossals are allowed to shoot against targets they’re engaging, and doing so will trigger an extra melee attack as part of the rules for Drag. In this way, the Prime Axiom gets to cheat with the best of them, being able to make all of its initial ranged attacks and two Drill Vice attacks (plus any focus-bought additionals) in the same activation.
-2x Drill Vice: Having 2 POW 20 open fists is pretty standard for Colossals, but having Sustained Attack? WOW. This coupled with Drag is reminiscent of Cryx’s Reaper Helljack, which I’ve always loved. It’s also yet another focus saving mechanic, since you won’t have to worry about boosting the to-hit rolls for any additional attacks made with a Drill Vice that has already hit successfully. A definite nail in the coffin of any caster you’re lucky enough to drag in.
By himself, the Prime Axiom is a formidable model, but let’s quickly look at some of my favorite things the Convergence of Cyriss can do to support him:
So there’s a quick look at the Prime Axiom! I think it’s a fantastic colossal and the faction can already support it really well. I’ll be back soon to show you guys how I paint it up. Until then, how have you guys liked Convergence? Do you guys think double Prime Axiom could be a thing?
