This Week in 40K Podcasting – 10/25/2013 – 10/31/2013
Highlights: This week the boys dive into some serious tournament talk. They kick off the show with ‘This Week in Gaming’ where they discussed the games that they have been playing lately. Next was the big tournament discussion as the boys hit on the two big recent events. So, they started with ‘Feast of Blades’ where Kevin talked about the Invitational event, which included some questions on rules rulings and terrain placements, and a brief look at his games. They then moved on to discuss the ‘Battle for Salvation’ where Neil, Pat, James and Mike all participated. They first discussed how the event ran, the terrain setup, and the missions. They then moved on to talk briefly about the lists that they took to the event and recapped the games that they played. Mike talked about his list and his games and the highlight here was the brutal Jetbike Seer Council list he faced. James gave a very brief recap of his games highlighted by his game with Jesse Newton and his O’Vesa-star Tau army which he beat, followed by Neil who brought his Tau and he skimmed through his list and briefly looked at his games. They closed out the show with a brief look at the new Adepta Sororitas codex and answered some questions from their Facebook fans.
Opinion: This week the guys checked it was some tactical looks at two of the biggest recent tournaments, which I absolutely loved. These two events were the last big ones for the year and hearing how the meta has turned during this year was just outstanding. They also touched on the Adepta Sororitas and some interesting questions from their Facebook fans, and there is always information to be had here. Overall, my favorite for the week!
Opinion: First, it was great to have some lost cast members back for the Space Marine episode; I was concerned that we had lost James at some point. Second, I really have grown to love the boy’s style of reviewing codices, and this one was no different. As usual they thoroughly detailed all of the new rules, Warlord Traits, and Relics found in the first part of the book. I always highly recommend these two-part episodes and look forward to next week’s installment.
Opinion: I really like the ‘Big Fight!’, so getting a double dose of it this week was just awesome. Not to mention the massive battle between the Tyrant and Eldrad, that was just amusing! It was also great to hear from Rob and hear about his experience at the UK GT Heat 2. Overall, a very entertaining show, thanks guys!
Highlights: This week Bill and Dawson are taking a look at the Space Marine Codex! They opened up the show with some updates to their forums and some listener submitted lists for review. They helped tweak an 1850 Ork list destined for DaBoys GT! They then briefly discussed what they have been up to lately in gaming and the hobby. Next, it was on to their review of the new Space Marine Codex, starting off with the look and feel of the book including the new art work and the special edition books. They then moved on to the new Chapter Tactics and how they have changed and how they help you build an army to your tastes; this included the rolling in of Black Templar into this book. They detailed each of the Chapter Tactics and their in game effects. They then moved on to briefly look at the Warlord Traits before moving on to talk about the named Special Characters. They then looked at the generic HQ choices before moving back to cover the Chapter Relics. Next, the boys briefly looked at the Troop Choices like the Tac Squad, before moving on to the Elite Choices like the Legion of the Damned and the new Assault Centurions, then it was on to the Fast Attach and the Heavy Support. They closed out the show with a look at how the book operates overall and some advice on how to build a list with your own chapter.
Opinion: This was another really good look at the Space Marine Codex, with the guys own twist on it of course. I have to say I really like the list building advice segment at the beginning of the show, I am hoping this will become a regular thing for them. I have a few lists I wouldn’t mind the boys reviewing myself. Overall, a good show once again!
Opinion: So despite the fact that once again no new models released for this army, I have to say the Sisters (or whatever name they decide to go with next) is an army I have always been intrigued by. The guys did just an outstanding job looking over this digital Codex and giving the listener a great review of the book. With the rarity of this army on the tabletop, I highly recommend you listen to this show just for the education on the army. Great work guys!
Second Founding – Episode 42 Keeping up with the fast GW releases
