Warmachine: October Releases Unboxed
So what did this October bring us from Privateer Press?
First up it’s another new unit for Convergence: the Reductors.
Here are all those bits. You probably won’t gasp in surprise when I tell you they share many pieces with the Obstructors, unboxed in this article.
These blades are one of the things that sets the obstructors apart from their Reductor Brethren.
They also pack some guns (center) mounted on their wrists (right). The other bits have the shoulder pads from the unit leader.
Here’s the first plastic unit resculpt for Retribution: the Houseguard Halberdiers. This new plastic unit will save you five bucks over the previous metal incarnation.
For what its worth, I definitely prefer this kit to the Convergence ones we’ve been seeing lately. While there’s still a lot of flash to clean, the armor plates and baggy pants have some very strong detail that Privateer’s plastic casting method seems to pick up better. I’ve also noticed that this plastic seems to do a lot better with curves, but not as well with sharp angles.
Here’s a different elf for a close look.
Even the weaponry of the Retribution, with it’s distinct aesthetic seems to work better in this plastic. I’m telling you its all the round shapes.
Here are some close-ups of the shields.
And the backpacks.
The next new release is not plastic, it’s a reboxing of one of my favorite units: the Steelhead Halberdiers. If you play Warmachine/Hordes, chances are you’ve had a run in with these guys at some point – you know what they look like. But I still took a picture of all the bits anyway.
And here’s a new solo for Convergence: the Algorithmic Dispersion Optifex. As long and weird as it is, I won’t be forgetting this guys name any time soon. Not after what one of them did to me in my last game against the Maiden’s finest.
And here’s his backside in case you were overly curious.
Lastly its my only Hordes release for the day: the Fennblade Kithkar. This guy is two points of awesome that just won’t stop. And his sculpt is pretty sweet too.
And he’s big. Be aware that the Borka in this picture is standing on a scenic slab of rock – and the Kithkar is still almost the same height. I think if he were fully assembled he’d also look noticeably more massive.
~And that does it for October people. If you missed the Earthbreaker unboxing you can check it out here. See you again soon.
