Dark Age Prevailers Unboxing Part 1: The Archangels

Today we’ll be taking a close look at these cool guys.

I’ve been loving what’s been going on with Dark Age more and more lately. What started as curiosity grew into real interest around the time they added the Outcasts faction, and it’s just continued to build. Since then they’ve added Saint Luke, the CORE, the Kukulkani, and the Fire Caste. But man, this latest wave of Forsaken models… well just see for yourselves.

That’s right we’ve got some Archangels here. The Prevailer council has used religion to manipulate their people since their society began. So when they start to feel threatened that some folks calling themselves “Saints” might have an eye to rule, what do they do? They one-up them by building themselves some Archangels.

Each Archangel starts as a physically ideal specimen augmented with grafts and drugs. Their minds are wiped and reprogrammed before they’re placed in a suit of armor as advanced as the Forsaken are able to make.

There are only three, and they all have different powers and equipment. Raphael here has a pretty decent spear, but his real weapon is a stream attack that causes damage that may not be healed. But what makes him really special is that he can heal friendly models.

All the Archangels have little faces like this on their armor. Kind of amazing that they’re able to get them all cast on this big piece. There’s a pretty big recess behind the head too. I’m not really sure how they work out the molds on this one. Maybe it’s more than just a two-piece mold?

I guess they need the little faces to compensate for this blank expressionless mask they all wear.

Here’s a shot from the other side. I guess it’s those little nozzles, more than the wings, that let these guys vault around the battlefield.

They all have all these cool servos on their arms.

Here’s a wing close up.

For no particular reason, Michael will be next.

Michael is very similar in appearance to his buddy Raph, but packs a big sword and shield. The sword hits pretty hard, and also prevents healing. He can use the shield to help protect himself and allies from ranged attacks.

He’s the only one of the saints to get one of these little idols. It doesn’t seem to have any effect on his rules. Maybe this is actually the weapon responsible for the Purgation attack group. Purgation allows Michael to put a template on anything he hits in melee. I guess it does have a kinda holy hand grenade vibe to it.

Here’s Michael’s face.

This is a sword. Michael hits people with it.

Other than the weapons, the biggest difference between Archangels is the wings.

Another Archangel back shot. And of course he has the same little jump jets or whatever we decide to call them.

Last up we’ll do Gabriel.

He gets a crazy pickaxe/hammer thing to swing around

Gabriel has the most serene expression of the bunch.

His shoulderpads amplify his voice into a spray attack that both stuns models and can knock them down. Pretty nasty stuff.

Our last set of wings.

The only thing I haven’t really mentioned so far is the quality of these models. Well I obviously love the sculpts, but the quality of the casts is also about as good as it gets. No mini is completely without mold lines, but these are about as clean as you’re likely to find. Go back and look at them again if you like.

~Hope you enjoyed checking these guys out. I have another unboxing planned soon for Lilith, Marius, and Esh. Do you  guys love these new Archangels as much as I do?
