REVIEW & PICS – New Necron Codex
The Evil Robots have awaken, and the Necrons’ new codex is here for 7th Edition. But is it any good?
If you’ve been following along with all the rumors since October about these guys, you probably have at least heard that some major things have changed.
But don’t get discouraged at first glance, because it seems like the changes that have may have reduced some units effectiveness from their previous incarnations, have been offset in other areas by higher efficiencies.
You even get more out of the codex itself, as normally we see 105 to 110 page codex books, the Necons got a full 120 pages for their 7th edition debut.
Games Workshop also introduced a new detachment option in the book called the Decurion. It’s basically a way to group multiple formations into one detachment, while blanket conferring to them a special command benefit from the Decurion itself.
You can also field these formations separately as well in an army using the Battle-Forge rules for 7th Edition 40k, as they each have their own command benefits!
Decurion aside, the codex once again contains a bunch of fresh art, and painted minis to inspire us all on our hobby adventures.
New wargear also awaits for the Necrons, as some oldies have returned once again to the codex. Plus there are also a few new items included that look to be new takes on existing items. One of these is the Void Reaper Scythe that is basically an upgraded Warscythe for fighting both Infantry and Vehicles!
They also got six new faction specific tactical objectives as well that are included in the book, as well as in the new Datacards set that was available for a short time from Games Workshop.
The sole new model release for the Necron’s 7th Edition reboot was this sweet looking multi-part Necron Lord that I’m sure we’ll be seeing atop Command Barges in no time flat!
Overall at first glance, this new book seems to be one of the best reboots for 40k 7th edition thus far, both in terms of rules content and background.
The new Necron Codex seems to be a refreshing spash of 40k awesome!
