Today it’s time for taking a look at Siege – Cygnar’s man with the big hammer.

The re-sculpt of this classic caster has been out for awhile.  This is a great time to take a look back at this big gun toting caster of cygnar.  Stat wise Siege is only behind Darius in the armor category with a respectable defense.  With only average MAT/RAT he will usually need help hitting most models consistently.

Siege is armed with a rocket and this gun packs a punch.  He can hit you from way back with only other similarly long range weapons threatening back.  Arguably his best ability is ground pounder.  This can really wreak havoc on packed in infantry or stealth targets thinking they are safe from gun fire.  Check out ground pounder’s rules which are to long to list here.

Siege has a great selection of spells.

Foxhole can be used for both defense and offense.  Keep your lightly armored troops safe from return fire or drop line of sight enemy models into a whole to free up lanes of fire.

Explosivo can get around annoying Menoth choir hymn’s and can give your stormwall some AOE blast damage.

Force hammer is a great knockdown spell but can be costly to cast.

If you need more anti stealth siege can help his jacks see with Magesight.

Rift is useful if the enemy heavies can’t get pathfinder.

Siege’s feat is Breach.  It halves the armor on models first hit for that turn.  All of sudden those ARM18 shieldwall guys can go down by anything that can hit them. Heavy Jacks and Beasts definitely are in trouble if anything with a decent POW gets to them. A defender cannon can easily do 1/3 of a colossal or gargantuan’s health with a big boosted damage role.

Playing with Siege:

Siege likes big heavy hitters to make the most out of his feat.  Stormwalls, Defender cannons, weapon masters, big Combined Range Attack.  Siege most likely never leaves home without Reinholdt and a Squire tugging along behind him.  The extra control area, focus, and 2nd shot or lucky roll make him even more boss then he already is.  His go to unit is most likely rangers.  The bonus to hit for ground pounder and assassination runs really make him obnoxiously accurate.  Be careful what you hit when you Breach.  A stray electro leap or blast damage will remove the breach effect and could lose that big damage spike you were planning for.

Playing against Siege:

Hiding doesn’t always work.  Siege can put a colossal into the ground with Foxhole so remember he can probably get Line of Sight to you.  If you can take out his support pieces he will start to stretch himself thin.  Without the ranger bonus to hit or the extra focus from the squire his utility can suffer.  Only the first hit hurts.  If you have a really high armor caster remember only the first hit is going to be the wollop.  He will still need to crack that armor with any shot after the Breach hit
