“Fix swords!” bellowed a commanding voice. Sergeant Casdin was shocked to find it was his own. His men complied and with drilled mechanical efficiency slotted their bayonets onto their Kantrael pattern lasrifles before shouldering them once more and pouring fire into the oncoming tide. “Remember, aim low! For the Emperor!”
“For the Emperor!” his men chorused. The foe was rapidly approaching and it was clear to all that in mere seconds their position would be overrun by a screeching wall of chitin, teeth and claws that spread as far as the eye could see like a living carpet of death. Sergeant Casdin squeezed off a final burst into a many-clawed horror, its squeal of rage and pain lost in the cacophony of terror given voice by a million million Tyranid weapon beasts. Then they were on them. From the rapidly advancing avalanche of biological killing machines sprang forth many bladed weapon beasts, sailing almost gracefully through the air, their death leaps propelled by unholy xenos muscle. Before Casdin could shout a warning to his men the first of them landed and eviscerated poor Gonhan in the same movement. Dronen stabbed at the beasts flank with his bayonet, a roar of vengeance for his friend and squad mate leaving his lips as another weapon beast impaled him from behind with its scythe-like fore limbs.
“On me brave Cadians! Hold Fast!” The remnants of Casdin’s squad formed up shoulder to shoulder, bayonets to the fore, forming an impenetrable phalanx of Imperial steel. The frenzied Tyranids came on, leaping to their deaths against the hedgerow of Cadian bayonets, the weight of the dying xenos dragging down men and rifles, breaking the formation. More skittering killers streamed into these gaps and made bloody slaughter of Casdin’s squad.
“Fall back! Fall back to position Secundus! Fall…”
Casdins bayed command was brought short by a Tyranid beast sweeping his legs out from under him, all but severing his right leg in the process. Casdin flailed about for his rifle as the Hormagaunt pinned his shoulder to the ground with a clawed foot. Casdin stared into the lidless black orbs of its eyes, its maw fixed in a permanent hungry leer exposing hundreds of needle teeth. Casdin knew he looked death in the face. The xenos drew back to strike with murderous intent only for its head to explode, showering Casdin with filthy purple ichor. Craning his head to see from whence had come his deliverance he could not fail to see the black armoured giants bestriding the sea of alien claws, thunder and death spitting from their sacred weapons. “Sweet merciful Emperor! Angels of Death! The Astartes! The Astartes are here!”

What a sight! Loved this layout it really looked great! another fantastic job by the team giving the battle a great overgrown ruined city feel to it! I couldn’t wait for this one to start!
Julian wins the first roll off of the game and opts to go first, setting out his bugs as close to the deployment line as possible waiting to dash forward upon the enemy lines.
I start to deploy my forces in a very defensive position making good use of my aegis defence line and one of the big ruins on my deployment zone. I deploy my Ogryns between the two centre positions ready to assault the approaching nids if needed as a last resort.
One of two kill teams deploy on the top of the bridge giving them a great view of the whole battlefield. Chapter Tactics: Deathwatch – Stealth – Preferred Enemy: Xenos – Night Vision (Ignores Night fighting)
Lord Castellan Creed watches the approaching red tide as he orders his men to get ready to fire!
………………Boom! Luck was on my side as I steal the initiative! Massive game changer for both of us as I now have the upper hand on the shooting round and will try my best to thin down the approaching ‘nid horde
Turn 1 (Imperium) Let the shooting begin!!!! Mark’s Deathwatch opens fire at the gargoyles slaying 4 in total with some poisoned sternguard ammunition
Turn 1 (Imperium) Creed orders his men to fire every possible weapon in range at the approaching tide…… Volley after volley of shots from the Veterans, Heavy Weapons and Deathwatch hit and wound killing 8 more Hormagaunts. It’s a turkey shoot out there!
Turn 1 (Tyranids) Making sure he stays in synapse Julian premeasures all distances and makes sure everything is in range.
