ODDBALL: X-Wing Random List Generator
Tired of list building in X-Wing? You starfighter pilots gotta check this awesome online tool out!
Hey Bols Readers! AdamHarry back again with another X-Wing article and this time it’s all about the list building aspect of X-Wing. It’s probably one of the most time consuming parts of the game to be honest. I’ve stared at list builders for dozens of seconds before I’ve thrown my hands up in frustration. “So many options! What do I take?” I’m sure we’ve all been there – maybe not with X-Wing in particular but perhaps with other table top war games. In all seriousness list building can be one of the most stressful and game-breaking parts of any game system. So why not have some fun with it?
List building? Better call in the Expert
After missing a scheduled game night with a buddy (thanks SXSW traffic) we got to hang out and chat about X-Wing. He said his list was a surprise and I was expecting some crazy double IG-2000 list he was working on. I wasn’t quite ready for what he said next: “I built my list using a Random List Generator for X-Wing!” The confusion, the shock, the bewilderment… and the possibilities! All those things must have been apparent on my face because my grin was there for the rest of the night as he explained what he had done.
Using Fab’s Squadrons generator he was able to input his collection and it would spit out a list randomly! Not only that but you have different options to choose from like point values and rules to follow. Did you want to have a bunch of ships? Or what about maximizing your cards? How about just maxing out one ship at a time before moving to the next ship? YES – it will do all of that. The interface is pretty simple and intuitive – albeit not the prettiest. But form before fancy … or something.
She may not look like much, but she’s got it where it counts, kid
My favorite thing to do with this list builder is to let it start with a random ship build and then lock specific things about that choice. Then roll the dice again (or rather click the button) and see what else it spits out. Once you get a list put together you can then save it for later or print it out. You can even share it with your friends.
Another cool feature is that it will also show you what expansions it used to actually build the list AND it will price it out for you using your chosen currency. I really appreciate this feature as my collection is not very large. This helps me to better budget what I could build for – If I wanted to go full random!
Its gonna cost about Three-Fiddy
So if you’re getting bored running the same Net-list over and over again – check this thing out. Add some randomness back into your list building and see how it turns out. You might just stumble upon some giant sleeper hit! Or you could end up with Han Solo in the Millennium Falcon and veteran instincts… So you can go to 11.
Isn’t that just 10… louder? Yes. Yes it is.
