Warmachine/Hordes: May Releases Unboxed
Reckoning is the new release everyone’s talking about right now, but it’s not Privateer’s only June release.
The Tharn Wolf Riders are just a reboxing – no new sculpts here. But why not have a look anyway.
The unit leader gets a cool skull helmet for herself, while her wolf’s leather cowl has a pair of horns.
Here are the bits for one of the grunts. Only… these are the bits for all the grunts. Other than an alternate, head, all the wolf riders are identical. Fortunately you can twist them around at the torso a bit to change up the pose. In all the years I’ve been getting harassed by these things, I never noticed they were all the same.
Here’s one of those alternate heads.
Now here’s a release I’m sure a lot of folks have been waiting for. The Iron Fangs and their UA in the same box, and they come with the Black Dragon option, AND they’ve been resculpted and cast in affordable plastic. This new box offers you no less than $45 in savings. If it was Black Dragons, rather than “generic” Iron Fangs you wanted, you’ll be saving $60 making these half the cost you would have paid previously.
Usually I try to arrange all the pieces in some cool way when I do an “all components” shot. But man there are a lot of pieces in here. Just a big heap of bits gets the point across right?
So, yes this is PVC rather than polystyrene plastic – as usual. Fortunately as with some recent kits like the Highwaymen and Kriel Warriors, these seem to be of improved quality over some older releases.
Sometimes you can’t really tell until you start cleaning, but I think these will be pretty well received.
You can see how crisp that Dragon looks on the shield. Although you can also see a few mold lines.
And the spears are a little bendy. But they’re better than the pewter ones, and seeing as how I had to replace the hafts on my old metal IFP anyway… Well it’s a lot easier to drill out plastic hands than metal.
I left all the heads in their bag since their teeny and I don’t want to lose any of them.
Now we make it to the UA, which I think is the nicest looking part of the kit. The standard bearer is a big improvement on the very static looking older one.
And that just leaves the two banners.
