Hordes: Unboxing the Aradus
Eww it’s a big gross bug. Get it off! get it off!
This is the new warbeast Skorne players can start fielding this month. It’s actually a two in one warbeast kit with the soldier above and the sentinel shown on the box. I hear these guys are pretty decent on the table, but hey I don’t play Skorne.
I hope you all knew not to expect sprues. After the shiny polystyrene goodness that was the Reliant, this seems like a step backward. But I still think it’s a pretty good kit.
Look at the back. There’s still a good amount of detail. It’s not as crisp as polystyrene, but it’s certainly substantial enough to paint up nice.
And of course we have some mold lines, but all those plates would have needed to be separated into a bunch of individual pieces if this had been a polystyrene kit, so maybe the time spent cleaning would have just been spent on assembly otherwise.
Enough about plastic. The pieces are all cool enough from a design standpoint. We get that cool armor all the Skorne warbeasts are wearing this year. The heads are nice and creepy. I wish I’d realized how badly I’d washed out the detail in the shot above before this guy went home to his owner.
Nice creepy legs. This is another piece that might have been in four pieces if it had been done in polystyrene.
Here’s the rest of the torso.
These claws almost look like they’re having a conversation. What would claws have to talk about?
Last up we have the tails. Those are some handsome venom sacks you have there my dear. Although there’s almost something grosser about the stumpy tail. I wonder if anyone will try using it as a head for something.
Overall I still think polystyrene is better, but with a little cleaning this should still look great on the tabletop. Hopefully Skorne players will enjoy this guy. I know if I played Skorne I’d need at least two.
~So what do you think about this kit? Would you have preferred polystyrene or has anyone warmed up enough to PVC not to care?
