Now Games Workshop has a track record of offering exceptional deals on thier starter kits from the old Warhammer Fantasy starters to 40K starters and especially the new Age of Sigmar starter. But a Horus Heresy kit is offering plastic versions of kits normally only available at Forgeworld’s top shelf prices. Let’s do some quick math to see exactly what those 44 models would cost at full Forgeworld retail:
Legion Praetors (2 models in Artificer & Cataphractii Armor) £31.5
The Legion Praetors set contains two incredibly detailed multi-part resin models. One Praetor is clad in artificer-modified Cataphractii armour, armed with an ornate paragon blade power sword and a Volkite Charger, while the other wears ornate artificer-modified MkIII ‘Iron’ armour and carries a fantastically-detailed archaeotech pistol, as well as a mighty paragon blade power sword. These two characters are fully compatible with Forge World’s Terminator and MkIV weapon sets, allowing for a great variety of wargear options.
Legion Mk.IV Tactical Squad (30 models) £165
This MkIV Tactical squad set contains 6 of the Legion MkIV armour kits, 3 Tigrus Pattern Bolters kits and a Legion MkIV Command Upgrade set. This allows you to make 30 bolter armed Mk IV Space Marines.
Cataphractii Terminators (5 models) £34 + £12.5 for weapons (x2)
The Cataphractii Pattern was amongst the first Terminator armour issued, and suits of this type were even more heavily protected than their contemporaries. Slab-like ceramite pauldrons housed additional shield generators, although this formidable protection came at the cost of the wearer’s speed, and the trade between agility and survivability meant that this pattern was beginning to decline among some Legions at the outbreak of the Heresy.
The iconic Cataphractii Pattern Terminators is a set of 5 detailed multi-part resin models which includes an optional sergeant shield, bare head and a grenade harness.
Contemptor Dreadnought Body £32 + £18 for arms (x2)
The Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought was once a mainstay of the armoured might of the Astartes Legions of old. Larger and stronger than standard pattern Dreadnoughts, the Contemptor’s systems featured many examples of techno-arcana steeped in the sacred mysteries of the Legio Cybernetica. Some chapters still boast these war relics amongst their ranks, and whenever the Contemptor takes to the field of battle, it is an echo of the power of ancient days.
The total Forgeworld bill comes out to:
£389 ($600 USD)
Now does anyone in thier right mind think GW would offer a starter set at anywhere near that price? I don’t. Looking at some of the starter sets and boxed games we get prices like these:
Age of Sigmar Boxed Set: $125
Assassinorum Execution Force: $125
Warhammer 40,000 Dark Vengeance: $110
Space Hulk: $125
See any trends there? Even if we assume that a Horus Heresy boxed game will be premium priced by GW compared to their previous boxed sets, we would still be in the $150-$175 range realistically.
And that is STILL A SERIOUS BARGAIN!
~I’d be saving my pennies because this October may see the biggest deal GW has ever offered headed your way!
