ScarabPack

It’s past time we took a close look at a very interesting release for Skorne.

Abilities

Scarab Pack

The warbeast pack is a relatively new unit idea from Privateer Press: a unit of warbeasts. They have low defensive stats, high fury for a light warbeast and a few synergistic rules to make them a fieldable option.

Animus

Scuttler: This animus is very useful for them but does tend to slow them down since they cannot run or trample to get a few extra inches before using it. It allows them to Dig in giving them respectable defense against most shooting.

 Abilities

Snacking: The chances of them surviving a hit are fairly low because of their HP but if they do this allows them to recover some of the damage they have taken. Perhaps more importantly it’s an RFP attack so it can help against recursion tactics.

Steady: Always being on your feet is never a bad thing. But without Scuttler they don’t have very good defense for this to be a huge benefit for them.

Swarming Scarabs: Most interesting new rule for the packs allows them to a different kind of gang which increases their melee potential with each one on a target. If all four Scarabs target the same model they’re Mat and P+S jump to a respectable 9 and 12.

Mandibles (Weapon): A weak attack that is helped out with the swarming rule and could come up big if you get luck and critical paralyze on one of the first few attacks. It can make them a big help against high DEF targets.

Overall they’re probably one of the weirdest offerings for Skorne or any faction. While their biggest role is probably as a tarpit thanks to their low points cost and 10 hit boxes each, they’re also pretty good at a multitude of other tasks. Swarming Sacrabs can help them with tougher targets, while mandibles can help aid in an assassination run. But with Skorne having so many other strong options, especially in the Warbeast department, can these guys find time on the table? Or will they end up on the shelf with the Reptile Hounds?

~What do you guys think of the Scarab Packs?
