“It was the best of times – it was the worst of times…”
This week brings us three new Khorne characters from the Age of Sigmar Bloodbound range. And I think here are seeing what the GW design studio is really capable of – for good or bad.
The new Slaughterpriest is just a superb model (strangely so was the old one). It’s tall and lean, almost lanky for GW’s heroic scale standards. The models has a strong dynamic stance and is aggressively striding forward with that huge funky sword-cleaver-whatever-it-is, and ball and chain. The model has a powerful vibe and real sense of presence – almost a gladiator-king type of figure. I will certainly be picking up one of these – probably for conversion work. It is GW pushing the definition of what a Khornate character can be a new direction.
Then we hit the other end of the scale of what GW can do. The Exalted Deathbringer has muscles on his muscles, and skulls on his skulls. It’s a miniature we have seen dozens of times before. The model’s torso is incredibly wide giving the overall figure a stocky short appearance. Still I will give him kudos for wearing pants. Oddly, I like the model a LOT more with the optional head with the long hair. It gives more volume to the top of the model that the pin-head helmeted option.
Finally we get the least inspired of the three – the fully armored Aspiring Deathbringer. It’s exactly what you expect a Khorne miniature to look at – no surprises there. The silver lining of all that armor, is I expect this to be the best seller of the three – because of 40K players. Stick a CSM backpack on this guy, give him a pistol in one of his hands and you have an instant CSM Champion or Lord.
Which is your favorite of the three?
