Behold the GLORY of the Dracothian Guard/Heraldor & Review
The Stormcast Eternal Dracothan Guard & Heraldors proclaim the power of Sigmar for all to see and hear – can you feel it?
via Games Workshop
Hey – GW has kicked out some Stormcast Eternal minis that look distinctive and different – HURRAY!
The Dracothian Guard
Now these guys actually look like something. We get cavalry that fits the style of the original Lord Celestant on Dracoth from the Age of Sigmar starter boxed set. It’s about time we get some mounted troops in the Stormcast Eternal faction.
These guys have a very nice feel to them, being quite beefy in size. It’s clear that these are designed as the Order counterparts to the Varanguard minis that came out in January. Thees minis have an “empire” vibe to them with similar barding and scrollwork that you used to see on the old WFB Empire models, with some interesting “scaly” details on the shield and forward barding that look almost Lizardmen in look and feel. An interesting mix. They also have a decent abount of fabric fork that harkens back to design elements from the High Elves range. I like them a lot and they add some desperately needed variety to the Stormcast Eternal lineup. Still, overall they are not up to the amazing quality level, positioning and detail-work of the Varanguard. But then again – Chaos does like the bling…
Dracothan Guard vs Varanguard – You decide which is better.
The Heraldor
What can we say about the Heraldor that hasn’t already been said before – really nothing.
Is the miniature well sculpted – yes
It it a good representation of its faction – yes
In the new Heraldor not able to be easily picked out if you put them in among a large field of other Stormcast Eternals – yes
He’s pretty much the same as the original Heraldor, but with his arms in a different position. A very, very odd release…
The Cash
Pricewise, these are a bit steep. $65 for 2 is Dracothian Guard is very close to the per model price of the $100 for 3 Varanguard, but at least you get the option of buying them 2 at a time.
4 out of 5 stars (Dracothian Guard), 2.5 out of 5 stars (Heraldor)
What is your take on the design of the entire Stormcast Eternal range so far?
