Tabletop Spotlight: The Punishing One Expansion
The Tabletop Spotlight is on The Punishing One Expansion Pack for Star Wars X-Wing!
Scum & Villainy got an awesome new ship with the new Punishing One Expansion in wave 8 so when our friends from Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy pulled this game changer out I knew we were in for a treat:
Yes, I did get a chance to open this one early but now that it’s in stores you have a chance to pick-it-up and play some games with it! And it’s a great ship to fly. I also talked about the plethora of options with the new JumpMaster 5000. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again this ship really makes Scum & Villainy a legitimate faction for X-Wing. Sure they had some builds before but now they’ve crossed over from “side faction” into REAL faction turf. Between the additions of both the Myst Hunter and the Punishing One they can really compete with Rebels & Imperials and they have their own unique take on how to play them.
This game-changing ship upgrade cards you’re going to want to run in your Scum & Villainy lists. The new cards include: Gonk, Dengar, Boba Fett, R5-P8, Rage, Guidance Chips, Attannia Mindlink and the Overclocked R4. Each one of these cards will find their uses in just about any Scum & Villainy list. Boba Fett is probably going to be the one card that should ‘scare’ most players as he can really mess with the meta. There is also some dirty tricks you can do with Gonk and the R5-P8 droid and Dengar as the pilot. Because Gonk functions like a discount R2-D2 and lets you get shields back he can help mitigate the damage R5-P8 may cause you and allow Dengar to throw up to 5 damage dice back on the return fire.
The other pilots are pretty great, too. The Contract Scout is a cheap & reliable ship that will let you go nuts with customization options. Tel-Trevura “comes back from the dead” and Manaroo is not just a great support ship -she’s basically able to avoid anything that requires a Target Lock to use (aka missiles and torpedoes). Why? Because she can transfer ALL target lock tokens to any friendly ship on the table.
Not too shabby – one way to mitigate damage from Missiles/Torpedoes is to not get shot at with them…
The Punishing One Expansion is a must buy for Scum & Villainy players out there because there is just too much cool stuff in the box to ignore. It’s a great ship for the faction and will throw people for a loop with all the tricks it can pull. It’s going to be a hard ship to pin down and it’s tough enough to take the hits while dishing it right back. It’s in stores NOW.
The Punishing One Expansion $29.95
Despite his slovenly appearance, Dengar earned a reputation as one of the galaxy’s most effective mercenaries, and his signature JumpMaster 5000, the Punishing One, was also much more than the lightly-armed and crescent-shaped scout ship it appeared to be. With its pre-painted, large-base JumpMaster 5000 miniature and its array of ship and upgrade cards, the Punishing One Expansion Pack brings both Dengar and his surprisingly powerful ship to X-Wing™, along with a maneuver dial, all requisite tokens, and the ability to fire its turret in a 360-degree arc.
It’s listing lazily to the left – I’ve never seen maneuvers like this before!
