Come take a look at the new Star Wars X-Wing Ships from the hit TV Show Star Wars Rebels – The Inquisitor’s TIE & The Ghost Expansion!

Hey again BoLS Readers! I got my hands on the new Star Wars Wave 8 ships (if you were following us on Instagram you might have noticed). I’m super excited to bring you our unboxings of the new wave 8 ships and to start I wanted to stick with a theme: Star Wars Rebels! Let’s take a look at everything you get in the boxes:

TIE Inquisitor X-Wing

I’ll start with The Inquisitor’s TIE because I feel like I don’t give the Empire enough love these days. The Prototype TIE Advanced is not a ship for beginners. It’s going to take a lot of personal pilot skill to get this ship where you need it to be. But with lots of Green 1 maneuvers and a mean boost or barrel roll when you need it, you’ll be able to really do some fancy arc dodging. The Top ship out of this batch is The Inquisitor and his pilot ability is pretty great:

And just in case you were wondering, yes – that also means the opponent does NOT get the defense dice at range 3 – that mean it’s always a +1 attack die and never an extra defense die! It’s not the toughest ship, but the Imperial fleet isn’t exactly known for flying bricks around the board. Hit hard, hit fast and dodge away! And while it doesn’t have an evade it does have a pretty great title card to handle that problem:

If you pair this ship with Autothrusters and Push the Limit you can really evade your attackers and get into excellent position!

Inquisitor’s TIE Expansion Pack $14.95

Personally tasked by Darth Vader to eliminate any surviving Jedi Knights, the Inquisitor had access to the Empire’s most advanced technologies, including the TIE Advanced prototype, a groundbreaking improvement over the TIE fighter designs of its time. In X-Wing™, this lethal starfighter appears as a carefully detailed and pre-painted miniature at 1/270 scale, along with four ship cards, including one for the Inquisitor himself. Additionally, the Inquisitor’s TIE Expansion Pack contains five upgrades, a maneuver dial, and all the tokens you need to launch into space and pursue your foes through the stars!

Next up is the polar opposite of the fast & nimble playstyle – it’s The new VCX-100 aka The Ghost & The Phantom ships. This box actually comes with two ships and a ton of great rebel crew options. This big, beefy ship has a whopping 10 hull & 6 shields – And it’s packing a 4 die primary gun! That’s nothing to sneeze at. Plus the plethora of crew options lets you fill those two passenger slots with a whole manner of tricks for your tool bag. Oh and lets not for get the The Phantom that can dock with the ship – which is a mean ship it it’s own right! I go over each of the crew slots in the video (The Ghost unboxing starts at the 9:38 mark) – but if you want to see my favorite pick it has to be Hera Syndulla in ANY form:

hera-ghost

hera-shuttle

hera-crew

Her pilot ability lets you change maneuvers after you see what other are going to do – AND you can adjust your speed/maneuver accordingly. Any abilities that let you say “oops, let me pick something else” or let you choose to do actions after you see dials (looking at you engine upgrade/PTL combo) are worth a double look. Changing a hard 1 red into a red 5 k-turn is a HUGE difference in position. This ship basically goes from being a typical “flying brick” into one of the hardest-to-pin-down ships in the game! You’ll have your opponents trying to guess where you’re going to be only to realize that it won’t matter because you can just change your mind. That’s what I call an arc dodger – and that counts for either the large ship or the attack shuttle as well.

She also really opens up some cool builds as a passenger also. Being able to continue to execute red maneuvers while stress adds so much versatility to ships. There is a certain B-Wing Pilot who is going to LOVE having Hera ride shotgun. His name is Keyan Farlander and Hera is a dream date waiting to happen!

Ghost Expansion Pack $49.95

Spark your own rebellion against the Galactic Empire with the Ghost Expansion Pack for X-Wing™! Fly into battle with the Ghost and Phantom, and recruit the talents of Ezra Bridger, Kanan Jarrus, Hera Syndulla, and the other heroes of Star Wars Rebels. The galaxy’s most famous VCX-100 – and likely the hardest to detect – the Ghost enters the game as a massive, pre-painted, large-base Rebel starship that comes with rules for deploying the accompanying attack shuttle miniature into battle. You’ll also find eight ship cards, sixteen upgrades, and all requisite tokens and maneuver dials.

This is such a great release from Fantasy Flight Games – Wave 8 is going to be a game changer. These Star Wars Rebels ships are just the tip of the iceberg. I can’t wait to get these on the tabletop…

UPDATE: By popular request…

“Thermal Detonators Token: When this bomb detonates, each ship at Range 1 of the Token suffers 1 damage and receives 1 stress token. Then discard this token.”

What’s your favorite ship from wave 8 – any fun combos/lists you can’t wait to try out?!
