Tabletop Spotlight: Wazbom Blastajet & Stormhawk Interceptor
The Tabletop Spotlight is on Two of the Newest Flyers to grace the tabletop from Games Workshop – Let’s take a look!
We all new the return of the flyers was coming – but thanks to our Friends at Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy, we get to take a look inside the NEW Ork Wazbom Blastajet & the NEW Space Marine Stormhawk Interceptor:
Both of these are solid kits from Game Workshop. If you’re looking to spice up your flyer game and you play Orks or Marines (either main line or allied detachment) then you might want to look at one of these kits. Keep in mind that according to the new Death from the Skies book, if you have Air Superiority then you get a bonus to your reserve rolls! Either of these two flyers could potentially help your forces get on the board quicker. But enough about rules – let’s talk about the models!
Wazbom Blastajet
This kit is a repackaging of the previous Dakkajet Fighter. On the plus side you get an entirely new sprue to build the new Wazbom Blastajet! It’s got a ton of extra bits and doodads that I’m sure Ork players will love to tinker with.
If you’ve already assembled a Dakkajet then you’re more than half way there. The nose cone is new and there are extra weapons and a spoiler, but you’ve got the basics of assembly done already. If you liked the Dakkajet kit, then this one is a no-brainer! It’s typical GW quality as well (lots of detail, good plastic, solid construction) and this sprue is packed to the gills. Not much else to say about this one!
Stormhawk Interceptor
What do you get when you take a Stormtalon and add wings with more guns? The Stormhawk Interceptor of course! This kit sports a new cockpit/canopy and some fun new guns to employ. It builds off of that Space Marine “boxy, yet functional” design and actually does look a little sleeker than the Stormtalon.
If I’m being honest, I was never a big fan of the Storm Talon Kit aesthetics. That goes for most of the 40k era flyers for the Marines. I think this new kit (which is a reboxing of the Stormtalon with a NEW sprue added) does improve on the design by elongating the hull. Love it or hate it, the Stormhawk Interceptor at least “fits” in with the rest of the Space Marine “Air Force Family” – and it’s got firepower to spare, too!
Overall, both kits are perfectly acceptable entries into the game of Warhammer 40,000. I think both kits have their own merits and Games Workshop knows how to work the sprue machines! Nothing wrong with that. I’m hoping this is just the start of a new wave of flyers. Unfortunately there weren’t any NEW flyers in the Death from the Skies book. But it did have the new rules for each race as well updated rules for all the current flyers. That doesn’t mean there aren’t new ones in the works – it just means right now, they have their current model line covered. Only time will tell!
Ork Wazbom Blastajet
There’s nothing more satisfying to an Ork than going fast. Well, except maybe lots of dakka. And explosions. and shouting “WAAAGH!” really, really loudly. What happens when you combine these loves into a single vehicle? The Wazbom Blastajet, that’s what! Madcap, improvised flying machines covered in improbable weaponry, these ferociously shooty jets are piloted by the maddest Mekboyz, flying in tight mob formations, competing to see who can blow stuff up in the most hilarious manner. The more hapless enemies dissolved by searing energies, teleported into oblivion or hurled through the skies to their messy demise the better – every kill means more scrap for the Mekboyz to gather up and nail to their Blastajet skwadrons!
This multi-part plastic kit contains all the components needed to assemble one Wazbom Blastajet, that uniquely Orky screaming skyborne destroyer. Absolutely bristling with detailed weaponry, the jet can be armed with a twin-linked kustom mega-kannon (or optional tellyport mega-blasta), underslung smasha gun, stikkbomb flinga (or optional kustom force field) and gitbusta turret! Includes a flying stem and Citadel 120x92mm Oval base.
Space Marine Stormhawk Interceptor
An awesome sight, descending at incredible velocities from orbiting warships to engage and annihilate enemy craft, Stormhawk Interceptors are a stunning hymn to aerial superiority that the Space Marines sing with gusto. The frontal armour and huge firepower makes them excellent dogfighters, hurtling through the clouds to execute target after target in a blazing display of incendiary defiance. Often seen in Vehemence Attack Patterns, Stormhawk squadrons and their golden haloes of flares discharged to gently dissuade incoming fire are a signal that whatever planet the skies are over, they belong to the Emperor.
This multi-part plastic kit contains all the components necessary to assemble one Stormhawk Interceptor, ruler of the skies and destroyer of the Imperium’s flying enemies. Armed with a twin-linked assault cannon, a las-talon (which can be replaced with an icarus stormcannon,) twin-linked heavy bolters (which can be replaced with either a skyhammer missile launcher or typhoon missile launcher) and an infernum halo-launcher. Supplied with a transfer sheet, one Citadel 120mmx92mm Oval base and a flying stem.
