The Tabletop Spotlight is on The Dragon Age RPG & GM Screen!

Hey BoLS Readers! If you’re like me you like to get your video game on. Dragon Age is a pretty great series from BioWare. So far, it’s consisted of 3 games that have had an interwoven story. The Universe of Dragon Age is also very deep as the folks at BioWare do tend to do fair amount of world building. This is where our friends at Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy come in. The folks at Green Ronin Publishing have created a pen-and-paper RPG set in the Dragon Age world and Michael brought it over to show off:

The book itself is massive. It’s everything you need to play an RPG in Dragon Age – it’s your Players Handbook, Game Masters Guide and Monster Manual all rolled up into one book. That makes it a great resource for all RPG players and GMs. But as a fan of the Dragon Age franchise I’m stoked to get to read more about the world itself. There is a ton of background about the game world and it helps to create a great sense of immersion in the game. If you’re a fan of the Dragon Age world or if you know one, this would be an excellent book to get just for the fluff!

The RPG is based off of Green Ronin’s Adventure Game Engine (or AGE). It’s a pretty intuitive system that uses 3d6 has the core rolling mechanic (vs a D20 system). It also has a neat stunt system that happens anytime you roll doubles. This is the same system that powers their Fantasy AGE RPG so if you wanted to get really crazy you could combine the two…but that’s a whole other thing.

In the video we also go over a new product for the line which is the GM Screen. It’s always super handy to have a GM screen (if you’ve ever GM’d you know what I mean). It’s got all the quick reference stuff printed on the GM side so you can quickly look things up. On the reverse side it’s got some cool artwork to help get the player’s thinking about the game world. It also comes with a pre-generated adventure to play and some handy accessories for the players. It’s definitely worth the price of admission!

Overall, I was really impressed with the RPG book for all the background and work that went into creating the game world. It really helps expand on the franchise as a whole and that’s just icing on a tasty RPG cake! The AGE system is a great fit and works really well in the Dragon Age world with the 3 different classes that you can customize down the road. If you’re a fan of RPGs or Dragon Age you should check out the Core book and maybe pick-up the GM screen while you’re at it – it makes a great gift!

Ages have passed since the last horrific Blight ravaged the world of Thedas. Some thought the current era, the Dragon Age, would pass without a Blight as well. They were wrong. Beneath the ground, darkspawn stir. A new archdemon has risen and with it a Blight that scourges the lands and darkens the skies. The nations of Thedas need a new generation of heroes. Will you answer the call?

Green Ronin Publishing brings fantasy roleplaying back to its dark and gritty roots with the Dragon Age RPG. Based on the hugely popular video games, the Dragon Age RPG brings the excitement of BioWare’s rich fantasy world to the tabletop. Designed by award-winning author Chris Pramas (Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, Freeport), Dragon Age features an original game system (the Adventure Game Engine) that’s both easy to learn and exciting to play.

The Dragon Age RPG is the perfect portal to tabletop roleplaying. The Adventure Game Engine’s rules run on your wits and a roll of the dice. Dragon Age also features an innovative stunt system that keeps combat and spellcasting tense and exciting.
