Infinity: Filling out the Yu Jing Red Veil Starter
Today I have some suggestions for aspiring Yu Jing players on how to expand their Red Veil starter force to 300 points.
As I’ve often said, I don’t think there is any best army in Infinity. Every faction has so much to offer at this point that there’s just no way to pin down that perfect 300 point list. Even the most seasoned player can only base their decisions on what has worked for them on the table. That having been said, I think I’ve come up with some ideas for how I would grow the Yu Jing starter.

4.5 SWC | 300 Points
My first thought was to consider the plan in the Red Veil book. The suggestion there is to just add the Guijia TAG and a character that hasn’t been released yet to fill the gap to 300 points. Not a terrible plan. TAGs are cool and a very fun part of Infinity. That’s not to say I don’t think the idea can be improved upon. If you’re going to bring a TAG, you really want an Engineer. Otherwise some clever little Hacker can come along, Isolate the big guy, and he’ll only get one order a turn for the rest of the game. Engineers are the only ones that can currently clear the Isolated State, so you really should have one around. I recommend the one in the JSA support pack. This guy, the Doctor who also comes in the Support Pack, and of course the TAG will give you exactly what you need to get your list up to 300 points and 10 orders. You won’t have quite enough to squeeze in the little helper bots that come in the support pack, but you’ll still be in better shape to fix up your TAG and claim some objectives than you would be without these valuable specialists.
“Vanilla” Yu Jing
Last up I’m going to build a “vanilla” Yu Jing list as if models weren’t a concern. That is to say – I’m not going to worry about old sculpts, or buying boxes with models I might never use.

Because I’m obsessed with Specialists we’ll start with the JSA support pack. I’m picking them because they are slightly cheaper. Another thing I love is Smoke, so I’m adding the Celestial Guard with the Light Smoke Grenade Launcher. He has another handy tool: the Kuang Shi control device. This opens up Kuang Shi as an option. These condemned prisoners turned mind-controlled soldiers are one of the cheapest sources of orders in the game. At only 5 points, I’m taking three of them. Since I’m still a bit light on hitting power, I’m throwing in the Pheasant Rank Imperial Agent with a Multi Sniper. He has a Multi-Spectral Visor in case I need a back-up. Additionally the Free Agent rule is helpful since this list has a total of 15 models, and I may need to move him to another order pool. I’m finishing up with the Zhanshi Hacker since he is Inexpensive but still has decent willpower. I do think this list might benefit from some more special weapons, but I prefer having lots of orders.
White Banner List
On the other hand, maybe you’re not interested in “vanilla” Yu Jing and only want to buy models that will fight with the White Banner Sectorial. This Sectorial doesn’t even exist yet – I didn’t even know it was a thing until Flamberga mentioned it in the comments of my last Yu Jing article. This means it’ll be tough to be certain which models will be usable with White Banner… but there are a few we can count on.

5.5 SWC | 300 Points
The new Zhanshi with Special Weapons that CB started showing off at the end of October are a safe bet. After all they’re just more Zhanshi. One of them won’t be able to fit with the rest of Red Veil because between the four of them and the starter models, there are too many SWC. For my list I chose to drop the Missile Launcher guy, but you can shuffle the points around a little if you would prefer to keep him and lose one of the others with the big guns.
Then you can add some more Zhanshi – this time the ones from the Yu Jing support pack to provide you with a Doctor and Engineer. These guys are some of the oldest sculpts around, but these specialists are too important to put off buying. CB still hasn’t resculpted any of the support pack models for any faction, so I don’t see a good reason to wait until they do. With the Support Pack, you’ll have around 20 points left – plenty of room to fit in a Yaoxie Lu Duan remote. Every sectorial can field all of its faction’s remotes so we know they’ll be good in White Banner. The Lu Duan is a pretty cool toy given it costs no SWC. His MK12 is nice and the Holoprojector can be a really annoying tool. It has a back up Multi Spectral Visor if your Hsien gets taken out- although the remote’s visor is just a level 1. This handy robot even has a Repeater and a Heavy Flamethrower. This route has you buying a couple of boxes with models you won’t use, but that’s only for now. You should be able to find uses for them later as you start shuffling models around and trying new lists.
