Geekery: GotG is the Deadliest Movie Ever
A new study puts Guardians of the Galaxy’s on screen body count at 80,000+
Go Compare – they normally deal in financial data – took a look at the number of on screen deaths in high performing movies starting in the 1940s. Guardians of the Galaxy came out on top thanks to the net of Star Blasters attempting to save Xandar in the final scene.
The movie has an estimated 83,871 body count, which is a whopping 78,184 more than the movie in the second spot.

The study also confirmed something audiences have notices over the years: the average number of deaths in movies is rising. In 1940 there was just one film with more than 50 on-screen deaths. This rises to four movies in 1950, 33 in 1960, 44 in 1970, 84 in 1980 and 119 in 1990. Four of the films in the top ten were released in 2014 – topped off with GotG.
The top four all carry a PG-13 rating, by the way.
