Tabletop Spotlight: Samurai
The Tabletop Spotlight is on Samurai from Fantasy Flight Games!
If you’re a fan of Feudal Era Japan then our friends at Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy have a great game for you to check out – Samurai:
Samurai is a strategic tile-placement and board control game. It’s been out for a while but that doesn’t mean you should skip over this one. The basic game play is that 2-4 players are competing for the 3 different resources of the region and the player that ends the game with the most leader tokens wins. It sounds simple but it will certainly stretch your strategic brain muscles as you’re competing against the other players. Aside from exerting influence over an area, you can also send in your Samurai to help you take control. It’s not always about being subtle in this game.
This edition of the game comes with a great looking modular game board. Plus, it’s an FFG game so you know there are going to be lots of well made components and tokens. Everything in the box has a delightful asian-theme and it all looks really pleasing to the eye laid out. If you’re looking for a game that is relatively quick and simple but infinitely complex once you start to learn how to really play, then check out Samurai.

Samurai is the beloved tile placement game by Reiner Knizia set in feudal Japan. Two to four players assume the roles of ambitious daimyo competing for control of the nation. To rise above your rivals and influence the nation’s cities and villages to your cause, you must prove you can lead their people. Through the strategic placement of tiles, you can establish your sway over lesser lords, the production of rice, and the region’s religious leaders. Sometimes, though, even these won’t be enough to establish your dominance, and to cement your claim, you must send in your samurai.
