The Games Workshop Webstore Team dabbles into the Experimental Rules Realm with the Razorback Rikarius!

Sometimes inspiration comes to us randomly. Sometimes we are inspired by others. In a very cool story, Games Workshop’s Webstore Team inspired one gamer to create a datasheet for one of their conversions. This inspired them to create an “officially” unofficial datasheet for their creation. Check it out:

The Razorback Rikarius

Shawn O’Leary was inspired by Rik’s conversion and so decided to send us a datasheet he’d made up for it. We thought it was cool (and so did Techpriest Rik) so we made a datasheet for Rik to use in his games. This is entirely unofficial and just for fun, but we wanted to share it with you anyway.

Curious as to what bits Rik used to create the Rikarius? Well fortunately we dug-up the original post so you can read for yourself!

A while back I built and painted a Fire Raptor Gunship for my Blood Ravens. A plastic and resin kit based on the Stormraven Gunship, this Forge World model is a tremendous tool best employed in the mass-clearance of enemy troops, light vehicles and enemy flyers.

As I finished putting the last bits into place and planning how I was going to paint my latest flyer, I took a look at the bits left over and noticed that the pair of hurricane bolters from the Stormraven hadn’t been used. Looking more carefully, it didn’t take long to realise that the clever folks in the Design Studio had based the size and shape on the ubiquitous Rhino door. The course of action became clear to me! Rummaging around my bitz box and stash of Space Marine vehicles (we all have a Rhino or two collecting dust somewhere – more often than not still in its box), I went back to the Forge World site and purchased a set of reinforced Rhino armour, a Razorback turret (settling on the twin-linked assault cannon variant) and, for good measure, a Dozer Blade.

The result of all this tinkering is what has become known around the office as the Razorback Rikarius – a heavily armoured Razorback equipped with twin-linked assault cannons and the prized hurricane bolters!

It’s pretty cool to see Games Workshop and the community working together to create something new (even if it is an “Unofficial” House Rule). And before you go off and say “Oh well, this is just a one-off. It won’t happen again.” I’d like to direct you to the TWO Forge World Exclusive miniatures that were released in Games Workshop Stores:

Now, these datasheets may have been created by the store managers at Games Workshop but 1) they are well done 2) they are as “Official” as the “Unofficial Webstore House Rules” are in my book. So say what you want about house rules and the “officialness” of them – these are cool datasheets created by Games Workshop staff. If you want to use them in a friendly game I’ve got no issues with that! Now, if you want to use them in a Tournament…you might want to check with the Tournament Organizer first…

What do you think of this new “Unofficial House Rule” Trend from Games Workshop? Are you for this or are you opposed to it?

Editor’s Note: The Razorback Rikarius has no transport capacity, a Siege Shield, a turret and sponsons…wouldn’t it have been easier to just make it a Predator Rikarius? I mean, I still like it…I guess Razorback Rikarius Rolls off the tongue better.
