The Tabletop Spotlight is on DOOM the board game from Fantasy Flight Games!

Just in time for the Holidays, Fantasy Flight Games is bringing DOOM to your tabletop in board game form. Our friends at Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy brought over a copy to show off and it looks like a blast:

Now, we got a quick Demo at GenCon 2016 and we were pleasantly surprised! Now the game is out and you can experience this run-and-gun boardgame for yourself.

Players take the role of the Marines or of the invader – it’s an asymmetrical game for 2 to 5 players. The UAC Marines players have a Special Operation (aka one of 6 missions) to complete. Each mission involves a unique map and set of goals. The Marines will have a specific objective to complete while the Invaders (aka demons) will have a set number of times they will have to kill the marines. Oh, and the Marines can totally Respawn – just like in the video game!

Each Marine player will have their own deck of actions based on their chosen class. You can swap out classes in between the games. This helps with the replay value because there are several different classes to mix-and-match from. The Action deck helps make those classes play different as well. The decks are built by combining your basic weapon cards and your core action cards. These cards each have a couple of different actions that you can use on your turn.

As you play, you’ll also expand your core deck with more weapons, gear, and additional abilities. While it sounds like you’re going to be playing with these cards a lot, they are used in conjunction with the models on the board to keep things moving. The game is actually fairly fasted paced.

The Invader player also has a couple of decks to manage but they don’t slow things down – they are there to help them generate demons and “randomize” the placements. (It’s really not that random but the invasion card is hidden from the marines.)

Overall, DOOM is a pretty fun and intense board game. If you’re a fan of the video game or if you’re looking for a way to telefrag your friends on the tabletop then go check out DOOM from FFG – it’s in stores now!

DOOM: The Board Game

DOOM: The Board Game is a tactical combat game for two to five players, inspired by Bethesda’s blockbuster video game. The asymmetrical gameplay pits one invader player and their arsenal of bloodthirsty demons against one to four elite marines, each equipped with a customizable deck of intimidating weapons and hardy armor, numerous lives, and the ability to Glory Kill weakened enemies within range. Every mission presents you with a unique map, specific rules, various items for retrieval, and objectives for both invaders and marines. Whether you take on the role of the demonic invader or the continually respawning marines, you’ll have to carefully plan out every move and use your specialized abilities to achieve your given objective and prevent your opponent from completing theirs. Descend into the hellish landscape of DOOM and join the epic struggle between demon and marine.

I need soldiers! I don’t need anyone else, but “soldiers”.
