40K: Guilliman is Going to be SO PISSED!
The Ultramarine Primarch is pulling a 10,000 year Rip Van Winkle – and he is NOT going to like what he finds when he awakens.
So the cat’s out of the bag. Roboute Guilliman is coming back. GW pulled the big man himself out on Friday and boy what a mini it is:
But enough about his mini. We’re here to talk about what this means for the Grimdark. Let’s take a look at this excerpt from the upcoming White Dwarf on his return:
“Guilliman, who must come to terms with what the Imperium has become in the 9,000 years he’s been in stasis.”
Now let’s think about what this means:
Roboute Issues
There are many, many things that are grim and dark in the Grimdark – but the Primarch of the Ultramarines is NOT one of them. If anything he is one of the brightest and most rational, secular thinkers of the Primarchs.
Roboute was an organizer without equal (except for dad), and a firm believer in science, and the power of the human will and drive. Ultramar and the “500 Worlds” was an empire within an empire back in days of the Heresy. It was almost a utopian dream and even formed an Imperium Secundus when it was believed the Emperor may have been killed.
This is NOT a man who will look kindly on the Ecclesiarchy, the veneration of the Emperor, Primarchs and the Saints. This is a man who who will view the superstitions and antiquated ways of of the Adeptus Mechanicus with shock and pity. This is a man who may not at all like what the High Lords of Terra and Inquisition have built over the last 10,000 years.
Most of all, this is a many who will be FURIOUS that some of his old brothers (Traitor Primarchs) and their lackeys (Abaddon and company) are still skulking around causing problems.
This is why he always remembers his helmet now…
What Will He Do?
That’s the rub. I have no idea. GW has already said he starts off by cleaning up Ultramar. Certainly Roboute will wish to travel to Terra to see what is left of his father with his own eyes. He will want to begin a grand rebuilding and reorganizing as only he can do. He will want to see the Imperium restored to the secular vision the Emperor tried to build during the Great Crusade. His reforms will be shocking to 40th Millenia’s ears and face stiff resistance from the Imperium itself.
It’s going to be a WILD RIDE!
Also we should all take a moment to pity Marneus Calgar. Dad’s back home, the house is a mess and he has to give the gloves back… 🙁
