Geekery: Breaking Down Rogue One’s VFX
The battle for the visual effects Oscar has begun…
This year the contenders are: Craig Hammack for Dee Water Horizon, Stephane Ceretti for Doctor Strange, Robert Legato for The Jungle Book, Steve Emerson for Kubo and the Two Strings (there was a discussion over why Kubo is included here – an answer for that), and John Knoll for Rogue One.
ILM shared another one of their SFX shot break downs just in time for the academy’s final vote…
They shared a longer look at The Force Awakens last year…
It’s going to be a tough call this year between Doctor Strange and Rogue One, I think. Knoll and his team at ILM did some really great work in a short amount of time – it was rumored that a lot of the CG shots were done during 3 months of reshoots last year. Ceretti and the Marvel team did a knock out job at translating the craziness of the comic to film.
The final vote is being held next week, and the Oscars air on Sunday the 26th.
Who do you think should go home with the statue?
