Skorne Errata Under the Microscope: Part2
In our first article we looked at the warlock changes. Lets check out the rest of the all new Skorne!
There were 86 different changes overall. The warlocks we reviewed last were crazy strong. Now lets see what the rest of skorne has to offer:
Aradus Sentinel:
In MKIII’s initial release he had argueable the worst animus in the game. A self only corrosion on melee on a heavy beast was garbage. He reverted back to the MKII animus and is now shooting Scatter templates similar to a Ravagore. This bug went from hero to O. Morghoul’s can get to 18+ Defense with the Swarm animus vs living models.
Aradus Soldier:
A point cost reduction now coming in at 16 points. This guy hits like a truck, is incredibly hard to shoot off the table and can be hard to get away from with the drag rule.
Archidon:
Probably the most controversial change in the faction when it comes to the Archidon. This beast was in a weird limbo in MKII, didn’t hit hard was oddly pointed, and only fury 3.
Well none of that is a problem any more. He comes in at only 10 freaking points. Is now hitting at POW15 base. Is now immune to Cygnar guns with electricity. But, the real kick in the groin is now it has long leash. That’s right, this budget HEAVY can be controlled 20+ inches away. The Archidon is insanely overpowered 10 point model…
Basalisk Krea:
The animus on the Krea was arguabley not very useful in the intial release. Titans went down to DEF10 so even with +2DEF there was no real reason to keep bringing this blind lizard to the party. Now it is a 3″ radius that also adds ARM similar to the MKII past. This brings titans up to about ARM21 vs shooting. Defenders are going to be dice off 6 with a POW15 gun. Boosting that is an average of about 5 damage from range. Good luck.
Desert Hydra:
This model wasn’t even out yet, but lets buff it! The Desert Hydra’s animus is now a blank -3 to RNG against models you shoot out in it’s CMD. That is pretty sick. Skorne wants to get in melee with you and you have shorter range with this, and they have higher shooting ARM with the Krea. Good luck.
Cataphracts:
All the Cataphracts got tough.
The Arcuarii are now weapon masters on the harpoons.
The Cetrati now have set defense and are cheaper.
The Incindiarii now have POW13 guns and are cheaper.
Overall these are some nice changes and you might be seeing some more medium base models.
Legends of Halaak:
They lost flank, but gained weaponmaster and stats. This unit is stupid strong for a cheap point investment. Can easily kill a caster or heavy if they get in range.
Beasthandlers:
The legendary free charges are back everyone. There is some stipululations though, the paingive has to be base to base with the warbeast. This makes killing paingivers even more important now.
Praetorian Swordsmen:
The MAT of these guys is now 7 and the UA now has powerswell. In Mak2 these guys are fast, accurate, and hard-hitting. Watch out.
Revenant’s Final Thought:
These are not all the changes to Skorne but definitely some of the more notable. This faction is radically different. In what way? Everything is overpowered haha!
Not sure I am kidding.
Comparing some other factions beasts, support, and infantry I am not sure you can make comparisons. Khador had the economical heavy in the juggernaut…looking at what the Archidon can do at that economy point cost there is no comparison. Looking at the legends compared to similar character units, there is no unbuffed comparison. The Devils Shadows can do some dumb-stuff with other solos/buffing. Beasthandlers are like mechanics on crack. Throw in the Krea animus, the Desert Hydra animus, and the relatively high armor of titans and bugs you are looking a faction that doesn’t fear ranged attacks. It might be knee-jerk reaction but, Archidons give me nightmares. I am definitely jumping on this train because it might be to good to last long.
