Looks like we’re getting not one, but two movies about people that carried swords and sat at a circular table.

Paging Dan Brown. Dan Brown? Do you like giant robots? If so we have a franchise that wants you.

The official synopsis released with this new trailer:

Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager; Bumblebee; an English Lord; and an Oxford Professor.

I’m not quite sure if that plot point makes it worse or better.

Speaking of King Arthur movies… Guy Ritchie’s quasi modern take on the legend of Arthur and Vortigern got it’s final trailer recently. It’s the best of the lot – it manages to not make it look entirely goofy. Minus the Flash Dance-esque punching the air really fast thing. The first trailer was released in July of 2016, and the movie has been moved back on the release schedule twice. It comes out a week after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 – either they have all the confidence in the world or none at all in it.

So this summer we get 2 Arthurian based stories and 11 (by my count) other franchise related films between now and the end of August. While I am looking forward to Guardians Vol 2, I am growing tired of the seemingly endless stream franchise based spectacles. Marvel is scheduled out to 2019, and LucasArts and DC to 2020. My hope is maybe we’ll get something new after that… maybe.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword hits theaters May 12th, and Transformers: The Last Knight on June 23rd.
