When James Gunn proposed the track list for the first instalment of Guardians there was doubt, and he was told that audiences wouldn’t like it. The soundtrack became one of the things that set the mood of the movie. The mixtape played a character that was never seen, but definitely heard – the album went platinum.
The mixtapes were made for Peter aka Starlord by his mother, as a reminder. In recent interview with Rolling Stone Gunn described Meredith as “a music lover, but she’s completely not elitist. If it’s something that’s thought of as goofy and pop, she likes it. If it’s cool or funk, she likes it. She just likes hooks and melodies. She’s a very quirky, young girl who fell in love with, you know, as it ends up, an alien. And falling in love with an alien is right up there in Meredith Quill’s alley. She’s an oddball, like her son.”
That idea is very evident here…
