40K: Fan Animates “Helsreach” – It’s Awesome!
Richard Boylan shows off some impressive skills with an amazingly animated look at “Helsreach” – you gotta see this!
Helsreach is a novel in the Space Marine Battles series written by Aaron Dembski-Bowden. It covers the story of the World of Armageddon and in particular the defense of Hive Helsreach by the Black Templars Space Marine Chapter. It’s a pretty action-packed novel and it’s worth a read if you’re looking for some classic Marine vs Ork combat.
However, that’s just setting the stage because one fan of the book also happens to be a pretty amazing animator. Richard Boylan has put together a very impressive animated “series” of the conflict. As of writing this, he currently has 3 videos up with more on the way. And get this, it’s not just beautifully animated, he also used some of the narration from the audiobook to add that extra grim-dark feel – and it works perfectly!
Helsreach Part 1: Prologue
Helsreach Part 2
Helsreach Part 3
I am digging the style for sure. The transitions and fluid and straight up entrancing at parts and that’s because it’s that charcoal/black marker style. I can’t get enough of it! Richard, keep up the awesome work!
Side note: As a child of the 80’s I had an “Aha” moment when watching the video. The style reminded me of a certain pop song from that era so on a whim I muted the audio from Helsreach video and played it in the back ground.
It works. It works SOOOOO well.
Thank you Richard Boylan for brightening my day and creating this awesome work – we’ll be keeping tabs on the series if more show up!
